For the record, I would like to highlight those few stubborn elected officials and activists that maintained John would/should indeed seek reelection, irregardless of reality. They impugned that character of good people, like Ted Gaines for example.
1. Aaron “everyone is crazy but me” Park: Aaron has carried water for John until the very end. No doubt he is hoping observers like myself have short memories when it comes to predictions he made, like “I will bet you a steak dinner Doolittle files for reelection one week after filing begins.”
2. Bruce “soon to been has-been supervisor” Kranz: Bruce authored a resolution brought forth to the Placer County GOP for adoption censuring Gaines for opening his exploratory committee, and encouraging JTD to seek reelection. With a quorum of more than 20, Bruce and another looser in this mess, PCGOP Secretary, Ben Mavy, were the only two aye votes in support of the resolution.
3. Tom “somebody pay some attention to what I think” Cosgrove: Two months back Tom was quite adamant regarding his novel idea to draft and circulate and “personal” letter in support of the Congressman and his reelection efforts. Bet he’s regretting that move now.
4. Tom “I’m beholden to the establishment” Hudson: Along with his Placer GOP partners in slime, repeatedly publicly supported John, while chastising other republicans expressing interest in the seat.
So today it is my distinct pleasure to watch these people eat crow and live in the political beds they made for themselves, while trying to back pedal.
As far as predictions on the impending race, look for Rico to emerge victorious from the GOP primary. I say this because I don’t think Gaines officially gets in, at risk of loosing his safe Assembly seat. Despite Rico’s high negatives, I say he takes the cake in the general by a +20 point margin over ACLU member, Charlie Brown. Mike Holmes and Erik Egland will be, and have always been, “also rans.”
Today is a good day for democracy and republicans in California’s 4th congressional district!
