Not sure if this is the right place to vent my frustration with the APD or not. This morning as I was driving my two sons to school I was "waved over" by The APD directly in front of Depoe Bay Coffee.. An APD officer standing in the street with a Radar device waved me over.This officer was just finishing up with another unsuspecting commuter. This officer asked if I knew why I was stopped. I told him no. He than asked me to remove my sunglasses? (which I did) and told me I was going 32mph. He then showed me the reading on the radar device. It read 30mph. He proceeded to ask me if I knew what the speed limit was and I said no. He then told me It was 25mph. My two sons and myself were all seat-belted. I really had no idea what the speed limit on High street was so I went looking for a sign. It turns out that from the fairgrounds entrance to Elm Ave (traveling towards Elm) there is exactly one stop sign (at the corner of college Way) The Officer told me that he just wanted to let me know that allot of people were speeding through this area and driving recklessly. Well, as you can imagine, I was dumbfounded and felt like I was being unfairly harrased. I am a very safe driver and have a perfect driving record. I have never had a speeding ticket or reckless driving ticket. Because of this action by the APD my kids were late for school. Anyone else think this is harassment?

At least you didn't get a ticket!

I think it would be considered harrassment if the officer had verbally mistreated you or otherwise behaved unprofessionally.

For APD, this WAS a friendly warning.

Did you ever stop to think that the officer was attempting to raise your awareness? Why do so many people bash the boys that try to make the streets safer? You were clearly stopped because you were not driving in a safe manner...Accept it...Speeding causes crashes,injuries and if someone stepped in front of your car you could kill them. High street is a small little busy street with shoppers and cars everywhere...No ticket for your actions? Sounds like you should just listen to the warning, and thank the officer for the warning...

It was just a friendly warning by police men. The same incident happened to me too.

There is a saying ignorance of the law is no excuse.
If you were doing 26 in a 25 mile zone then you would be speeding. If the signs are posted or if the signs are not posted it is your responsibility to know the speed limit on the roads you drive.
We all need to take responsibility for our own actions and not always blame our boys in blue for doing the jobs we pay them for.
Personally I think it was nice of the officer to give you a warning and take the time to explain to you that the speed limit is 25 and not 30 or 32.
The reason he asked you to remove your sunglasses is to look at your eyes. It is a real quick way to see if someone is on drugs or have been drinking.
Instead of being the victim you should use the situation to explain to your children that for all actions intentional or unintentional there are consequences.

I find the APD very friendly and tolerant. I was stopped at a signal and was talking to my wife when the signal changed to green. My brain saw the green and said 'go.' Unfortunately, the green was for the left turn lane and I was going straight. I moved about a car length and a half before I realized my mistake and hit the brakes. Strange thing is, an Auburn police officer was in the vehicle behind me and I knew the vehicle was there, yet my brain still said 'go' when it say the green.

The officer was VERY nice and VERY professional while I was very embarrassed and apologetic and remorseful for not being as attentive as I should have been -- talking to a spouse is just as dangerous as texting on a cell phone while operating a vehicle! Big warning. No ticket. Thank you very much.

In all, I'd say our officers are probably the most professional I have encountered, the most understanding and the most tolerant. As long as you are civil to them, they are civil to you.

Now, if they could only catch and warn all the cyclists who keep blowing through the stop signs, I'd be a lot less worried for them.
