Word has it that the Open Door Cafe located at 891 Lincoln Way in Auburn, CA has closed it's doors. (thanks Loyce).
Please let us know if you have heard who will be taking over the new space.

That building in which the Open Door operated has been sold and I have this on authority from my friend Syl Bruce, who owns South West Silver. Looks like the rug business on the corner of Lincoln is making great effort to liquidate. Now if only more shoppers would visit Downtown, perhaps these businesses would have a chance at survival. Meanwhile, out in North Auburn, businesses continue to thrive and development hums along.

Never really had the opportunity to check out the Open Door Cafe in Downtown Auburn. Sorry it had to close. Good point Loyce, North Auburn is continuing to take shape. Lots of new business will be opening up. Besides, the traffic out on Highway 49 will get busier.
Love the Auburn Running Company in Downtown Auburn. Give them your business. It is the best place to be fitted for walking and running shoes. The Owner Dan is a very nice fellow. He has ran many ultra marathons/Western States 100 milers. Stop in sometime and say hi.

Reference my post on successful businesses. It would appear that Dan of ARC may have a good chance at sustaining his business because Dan has a strong commitment. Dan's greatest challenge will be to create traffic Downtown Auburn and to hold his own against the force of the Internet. We wish him luck in the challenging world of retail.

The Auburn Running Company is a favorite store of mine. Buy running shoes that fit comfortably. Enjoying running a lot.
Payless Shoe Source has great deals on casual shoes/tennis shoes and more.

I love the downtown area! I stop in at some of the shops everytime I visit Auburn. Now that I know they really need the business, I will make sure I spend a little more time there. I noticed the building where the "Corner Pub" neon sign is (Hwy. 49?) went out of business and is advertising a lease in the window. Sure would be nice to have an Italian Market there. I have checked out the area and there doesn't seem to be one in the surrounding area. Maybe by the time I move to Auburn, hopefully in a few years, there will be one! The little yellow building that is a salad shop at the north end of downtown is my favorite little building, love the architecture. It seems like it has been a couple different businesses since I have been visiting Auburn.

With the challenges of the Internet, just how do these Mom/Poppers plan to stay alive especially when Downtowns across America succumb to the malls. Times are changing as corps like Starbucks rule the world. Big just continues to gobble little until little is lost because the challenges of a small business owner are daunting and big can outbuy for smaller prices and bigger profits. Did we not bid farewell to the Mom/Pop grocery stores as they gave way to the superstores and those low/lower/lowest prices.

It is really sad to see those mom and pop grocery stores close down. The superstores have taken over with their lower prices.
