Alta Vista School, located in the heart of Auburn, will be celebrating its 100th anniversary on Saturday, May 3, 2008 until 6:00pm on Alta Vista grounds.The celebration will include local food vendors, entertainment and some special presentations at a centennial ceremony to be held that day. In light of the fact that this will be Alta Vista's last year as an operational elementarty school (after a recent decision by the school board to close the campus ), we would like to make this celebration really special. Anniversary, as well as an incredible line-up of artists.

This two-day event will take place on Saturday, May 3rd from noon to 10pm, and Sunday May 4th from noon to 6 pm at Auburn Gold Country Fairground.

Accessible yet eclectic this is one of the fastest growing music festivals in Northern California. Now in it’s third year, Karfluki Fest, is a terrific event for families and friends alike including fantastic food, fun, and activities for kids of all ages.

“Karfluki” refers to a popular tune in Tempest’s repertoire and translates to something like “big fun” and “off the wall.” It is an apt phrase to describe the variety of acts and activities taking place at the event, organized by Tempest lead singer, mandolinist, and founder Lief Sorbye. “This year is our twentieth year together as a band and we have created an exciting 20th Anniversary Show just for Karfluki Fest.” said Sorbye. “This will be a very special concert featuring four key lineups of the band together in one spectacular performance: Tempest Through The Ages, spiced up with Dancers, jugglers, Fire and Mayhem!”

{mosimage}"Flowers of the Nile, based in Sacramento, California, is a duo playing Middle Eastern music, specializing in classic and folkloric Egyptian music from the great composers of the 20th century.  Philip Gabriel, from Egypt, plays the oud (Arabic lute) and sings; Cynthia Rutherford, a California native, plays Egyptian tabla and other percussion instruments.  Audiences all over California have enjoyed the band’s unique arrangements of this captivating music at dance and international festivals, theatrical and educational presentations, parties, and restaurants.  They are frequently joined by professional bellydancers as well as other musicians on instruments such as keyboard, percussion, and violin.  Their CD, “Egyptian Classics”, was released in January 2008."  Professional Belly Dancer Namira will perform in a special show....
