Silver Screen Classic Movies (2:00PM - 11:59PM)

 JULY 5

LAVENDER HILL MOB

Everyone underestimates Alec Guinness, which makes his daring scheme all the more delicious. With help from Stanley Holloway, the unassuming bank clerk plots to steal gold bullion from his bank and smuggle it into France. Who needs the lottery? "The most nearly perfect fubsy comedy of all time. It's a minor classic, a charmer."-Pauline Kael. 1951

Manager: The trouble with you, Holland, if I may speak frankly, is that you do not have enough ambition. When a good opportunity comes along grab it with both hands. May not occur again.
Guinness: Very good, sir. I'll follow your advice.--Guinness's fubsy clerk, plotting to do exactly as he's told.

2008 marks the 12th year of great classic movies In Auburn, California. Once a month in the Auburn Library's Beecher Room, celebrate the golden age of the silver screen.

Romance and adventure, comedy and dance, mystery and music --it's another year of classics from Silver Screen! These movies resonate with great stories and great actors, such as Katharine Hepburn and Bette Davis, Laurence Olivier and Spencer Tracy -- and great directors, such as Alfred Hitchcock and George Stevens.

After 50, 60, even 80 years, these movies continue to amaze, delight, and entertain. The stars continue to gleam in the dark on the silver screen.

Join us as we continue to honor an age long gone but fondly remembered.

Presented by the Auburn Library, the movies are shown at 2 and 7 p.m. in the Beecher Room of the library, at 350 Nevada St. in Auburn. Admission is free.

Summer Family Music Festival-CANCELLED (9:00AM)

This event has been canceled due to poor air quality.

Auburn's First Annual Summer Family Music Festival

Friday, July 11th 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Auburn Garden Theatre

350 Nevada St. Auburn

FREE ADMISSION

Featuring performances by: The Auburn Symphony, cast members from Seussical, the Cracker Jack Dixieland Jazz Band, the Begin Family Fiddlers, and more!

Bring the whole family to this sparkling summer morning of musical fun, featuring storytelling, dance and live music by local performers! Children (and those who are kids at heart) will be encouraged to dance, sing, and fall in love with music!

Bring a blanket and plan to picnic. Two local growers will be selling natural, healthy, and locally grown food. There will be information available on local musical opportunities, including classes and teachers.

It will likely be a warm summer morning, so please bring hats, sun block, and plenty of water. You are welcome to bring your own picnic food or you could plan to purchase food from our two vendors (see below). You also might want to bring a blanket to sit on, and your camera. And if your child has a favorite percussion instrument, you might consider bringing that as well. We hope they will play along with some of the musicians!

Newcastle Produce and The Natural Trading Company will be at the festival offering healthy and natural food for your enjoyment, such as sandwiches, whole fruit and vegetables, and yogurt. You are also welcome to bring your own picnic, of course.

What does your child see or imagine when he or she hears music? We want to create a collection of children's music-related art. Ask your child(ren) to draw a picture and we will include as many as we can on our web site. Call Miccie at 530-906-7034 for details.

Generously co-sponsored by the Placer County Library and the Friends of the Auburn Library.

Summer Family Music Festival-CANCELLED
