The first Saturday of every month Friends of Placer County Animal Shelter will sponsor a microchip clinic at Diamond in the Ruff Pet Spa – 845 Twelve Bridges Drive #120 – Lincoln – 916.543.4670.

The first Sunday of every month, clinics will be held at The Cat House – 11556 D Avenue – Auburn - 530.823.6828.

Silver Screen Classic Movie- Woman Of The Year (2:00PM - 11:59PM)
SEPTEMBER 6
WOMAN OF THE YEAR

Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy in their first movie pairing. Sparks fly when sophisticated Kate and down-to-earth Spence get together. It's an uneasy alliance: she's ambitious, he's old- fashioned. When they wed, he teaches her what counts in a 1940s marriage. "The romance crackles with wit and spunk."--James Monaco. 1942

"Women should be kept illiterate and clean, like canaries."--Spencer Tracy's friend, Roscoe Karns

2008 marks the 12th year of great classic movies In Auburn, California. Once a month in the Auburn Library's Beecher Room, celebrate the golden age of the silver screen.

Romance and adventure, comedy and dance, mystery and music --it's another year of classics from Silver Screen! These movies resonate with great stories and great actors, such as Katharine Hepburn and Bette Davis, Laurence Olivier and Spencer Tracy -- and great directors, such as Alfred Hitchcock and George Stevens.

After 50, 60, even 80 years, these movies continue to amaze, delight, and entertain. The stars continue to gleam in the dark on the silver screen.

Join us as we continue to honor an age long gone but fondly remembered.

Presented by the Auburn Library, the movies are shown at 2 and 7 p.m. in the Beecher Room of the library, at 350 Nevada St. in Auburn. Admission is free.

Acorns And Oak Apples - Family Nature Walk (11:00AM - 2:00PM)

Did you know only one in a thousand acorns turn into a tree?

Or that those little weird round "apples" on tree branches are actually bug homes?

Or how about the fact that Maidu adult tribe members used to eat 500-1000 lbs of acorn meal each year!

Oak Trees are truly remarkable. Today the cover only a tenth of California, but once were more plentiful. More than 300 mammals and birds, and some 5,000 insects, depend on them for survival.

On Sept. 13, Naturalist Eve Sande, will awe and entertain with a walk through the native Oaks at Placer Nature Center. Starting at 11 a.m., Sande will lead participants on a natural and cultural journey through the history of the Oak Tree and its ecological value to both woodland critters as well as humans. Perfect for children and adults alike!

Special highlights include identification, the Maidu’s uses for Oak Trees and the difference of trees today and yesterday.

Also open for exploration will be the Nature Center’s Main Exhibit Hall and WaterShed Learning Center, Discovery Lab, Maidu Village, Demonstration Garden and The Nature Shop!

No reservations needed, but feel free to call with questions!

The Riding High Equestrian Program is an Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy Center and Riding Lesson Facility. We are a non-profit organization that provides counseling to youth and adults using animal assisted therapy. Our program is designed to help children and adults discover an alternative, interactive road to recovery.

Executive Director, Honey Cowan, M.F.C.C. , CRS and RN, has been providing counseling for over twenty years and has been using horses for therapeutic purposes for the past eleven years.

We are on a beautiful 10 acre ranch with 27 animals. We welcome you to come to our fundraiser and learn more. We would love to have you!
