Placer Farm & Barn Tour
The 4th annual Placer Farm and Barn Tour will take place on October 14,
2007. Celebrating Placer Countyıs agricultural heritage and the family
farms that feed us, this is a fun-filled day for families and people of
all ages to explore the farms and ranches that dot Placer Countyıs
rural landscape. This yearıs tour features over a dozen working farms,
ranches, wineries, plus a nursery and the historic Fruitvale School, as
well as the 12th annual AGROartTM Competition.
Dozens of local farms, ranches,
wineries, nurseries and the historic Fruitvale School have participated
in past tours. Each year there are new farms and ranches to visit, with
an ever-changing variety of activities such as horse-drawn wagon rides,
and demonstrations of all types, including mule-drawn farm equipment,
sheep dogs showing off their expertise in moving a herd of animals.
Many
farms offer samples of farm-fresh seasonal fruits and vegetables, baked
goods, olives, olive oils and local wines. Most farms will host local
Placer County artists who will be drawing, painting on
canvas or throwing pots as well as offering hand-made artwork for sale.
The centerpoint of the day is PlacerArts' AGROartCompetiton
at the Blue Goose Fruit Shed in Loomis, where talented artists of every
age craft quirky sculptures out of fresh fruits and vegetables and vie
for cash prizes.
Information about the 2007 tour hosts and program will be posted on the
