Wildlife Rehabilitation and Release (WRR) has been rehabilitating area wildlife for over 20 years. In addition to their rehabilitation work with songbirds and raptors, WRR rehabs a variety of small mammals and fawns. WRR, licensed by the CA Dept. of Fish and Game and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to rehabilitate wildlife is the only licensed wildlife rehab facility in Nevada County. WRR also holds a special permit to rehabilitate eagles.
In recent years, WRR has increased its community outreach in an effort to educate the public on the importance of wildlife conservation. Their Educational Ambassadors are a highlight of these presentations. The audience gets to meet such interesting birds as a Great Horned Owl, a Western Screech Owl, a Red-tailed Hawk, an American Crow, and others up close and personal. Their Ambassadors are non-releasable birds, permitted by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to serve as educational animals. Each has his/her story to tell. Come learn about the challenges involved in wildlife rehabilitation and meet a number of WRR ambassadors. It is truly a moving experience to see these beautiful birds on an intimate basis.
Janey Powers, president of WRR has been rehabbing animals for ten years. She is also the editor of the Phoebe and was recognized this past June as the SFAS Volunteer of the Year.
