Join us on Sunday, October 12, 2008 for the 5th annual tour.
The
Placer Farm and Barn Tour celebrates Placer County's agricultural
heritage and the family farms that feed us. This is a fun-filled day
for families and people of all ages to explore the farms and ranches
that dot Placer County's rural landscape.
Each year there are new farms and
ranches to visit, with an ever-changing variety of activities such as
horse-drawn wagon rides, and demonstrations of all types, including
mule-drawn farm equipment, pond maintenance and fruit tree grafting.
Many
farms offer samples of farm-fresh seasonal fruits and vegetables, local
meats, baked goods, olives, olive oils and local wines. Most farms will
host local Placer County artists who will be drawing, painting on
canvas or throwing pots as well as offering hand-made artwork for sale.
The centerpoint of the day is PlacerArts' AGROart™Competiton
at the Blue Goose Fruit Shed in Loomis, where talented artists of every
age craft quirky sculptures out of fresh fruits and vegetables and vie
for cash prizes.
For additional information call (530) 885 5670.
The purpose of the Placer Farm & Barn Tour is:
- to connect area residents with local farmers
- to educate the non-agricultural public about local agriculture
- to make Placer County an agricultural tourism destination
- to build a philosophically & economically active support base for Placer agriculture
