Though it could still be possible, chances aren't looking good right now. I spoke with the corporate office and they said "Auburn is not part of our five year plan" and "We have no plans to open a store in Auburn." What's happening at the Ralph's location, according to Placer County officials, is the landlord is splitting the store so that he can rent to more than one tenant. At this point, nothing is slated to go in the space as far as the county knows, because no permit requests or plans have been submitted from any potential lessee. They are REI and Trader Joe's. I don't think an REI is necessary in Auburn. But, in my opinion, a Trader Joe's would be one of the best things that could happen to Auburn and most everyone I know feels the same way. During a recent shopping trip there, everyone I talked to was either from Auburn, or Grass Valley. They, too, were totally supportive of a store here in Auburn. The prices are great. The quality of the products they carry is great. And the variety of products they carry is so vast, that the last time I was there, I was able to get everything I needed without making another stop. I recently moved, and now live right near a Trader Joe's. I started doing ALL my shopping there and shaved $100/week of my grocery bill! Their prices are awesome! I plan to move back soon, and I really hope TJ's does come to Auburn. Honestly, I don't think they are a competitor for Ikedas, they don't sell the same stuff. TJ's is like a regular grocery store, with a lot of hard-to-find and organic items as well. I mean, I buy butter, laundry soap, sponges, meat... all my [i]normal[/i] groceries there. Ikedas is more like a specialty shop, and also has yummy burgers! Hey just pulling your leg...those local businesses are ripping us off because many of us are too lazy to drive down the hill. Home Depot will make Eisley's honest---or perish. Costco will make Pak N' Save honest...or Safeway will close 'em.
