Over priced fish taco place....would be much better if they had a rest room....................How did the City Of Auburn allow a food place to open without a bathroom, you ask?......................Because "Joe Caribe" is a Take-Out place, not intended for eating at the establishment...........................Yet, there is an abundance
of stools, at a counter which extends across two walls, seating 8 persons.....................Not only that but the service is rather crappy when you consider that I asked for ice water and got a cup of water with no ice............As take-out food, its OK from a taste perspective--- and would earn 2.5 stars despite being rather pricey....................Not having a bathroom is INEXCUSABLE............. the lukewarm tap water was the final straw---NOT RECOMMENDED!!!

The Ponderosa is a throwback to kinder and gentler times, right down to the old fashioned jukebox filled with C/W tunes from a bygone era.

Our fondest memories of early foothill wandering was stumbling on to the Ponderosa after a long day of rafting/bridge jumping on the nearby North Fork of the American river.

Still family owned and operated by the Velicans, the Ponderosa has down-home grub with reasonable prices.

Highly recommended if you're in Weimar, Colfax, Applegate, or traveling on I-80 and looking for an out-of-the-way place that is easy on the pocketbook.

Best bets are the Chicken Wing appetizer, the Pork Chop platter, and the gargantuan steaks.

When you are someone planning a private party, chances are you don't want to use your home, if there are more than 50 guests attending...... Or, if you're planning a kiddie birthday party and want to have a convenient and easy-to-find location.........I've lived in the Auburn area for nearly 2 decades and have held many private events in this facility, most of which were birthday parties for my daughter.......Consequently, budget-minded event planners in Auburn, CA should take another look at this clean and tidy rental hall for up to 120 persons...............................The people who rent the hall are very easy going. You give them $200, and a cleaning/security deposit of $125, and they gives you the keys on the Friday before the event. Compared to the DeWitt Center or the Moose Lodge, the Applegate Civic Center Club is pretty reasonable in cost, for a place seating close to 130 and having kitchen facilities..................For your $200 (net cost), you get a very nice place in Applegate CA (very close to Auburn CA), with plenty of parking for your guests.............................................
An adjacent county park and tot lot, ensures plenty of indoor and outdoor possibilities for your child party events..................................................................The kitchen has been remodeled and there have been new floors put in, and other improvements to windows and acoustics................The reason Applegate is ideal for a party's location is the ELEVATION (2,100 feet above Flatlands)......in the winter time, you get sunny 60-65 degrees F, while Sacramento is freezing in the fog! In the summertime, Applegate is a balmy 98 degrees while Sac-town swelters at 106. It cools down faster at nite...................................................Meanwhile, your event guests inside the Applegate Civic Center Club are enjoying the comfort of a brand new heating and air conditioning system that was recently installed by the members of the Applegate Civic Center Club, a non-profit organization. So when you're renting this facility keep in mind that you are making a contribution to the continued success of this fine organization.

Came here for lunch......its on the pricey side for Auburn ($25 for two persons, without beverages). I guess in LA, they were thought to be low priced................................................On the plus side, the food is excellent and they give you unlimited quantities of their wonderful Sicilian bread.......................The service is outstanding, and the waitresses are cute too....this place is going to give Luigi's and Pasquale's some competition!

John Grunigen, a Foresthill builder and general contractor, has been our go-to guy for Home Remodeling projects at our sierra foothills residence........His business license was originally "Portable Welding", hence the name "Golden Sierra Portables". Over the years, he's expanded into all types of building trades, for commercial and residential construction. For the last several years he's got a General Contractor license but will work for "Owner-Builders" as a subcontractor (as long as you get the necessary permits).....We've used John for a building addition project, and also for general handyman work around our house. Every time, the work has exceeded the code requirements and has come in under budget......Its great to have someone willing to work on "Time And Materials" rather than having to pay 30-40% to your contractor.........In the building addition project, completed in 2001, we were able to buy the materials directly from the source, and pay our laborers on an hourly basis. Hence our $100,000 in increased value to our home at a net cost (to us) of $50,000.......If you don't want to go through placer county's red tape yourself as an Owner Builder, it is highly likely that John would be a good value as a General Contractor because he'll use the best materials and won't charge the high mark-up as much as the other guys.......I suppose the true test of a contractor's mettle is when guests to our home (some of them are building contractors themselves) make compliments about the workmanship, and the quality of the improvements that we made.......If you're looking for an honest Placer County building contractor in Auburn CA, check out John Grunigen at Golden Sierra Portables!

I'm spoiled by "Big Joe's" in Citrus Heights.

However, since Auburn does not have a lot of BBQ places, this joint will survive due to lack of competition.

I consider cleanliness important in overall atmosphere considerations, and when you consider what might end up in your potato salad -or- pumpkin cream pie.

However, having eaten at two different functions catered by Savannah's and not getting sick, I'm going to overlook the other reviewer's comments and say that this is just slightly above average BBQ fare, compared to what you can find in the "Flatlands."

I liked Pappy's better when it was a Greek Restaurant. Unfortunately, the town of Auburn does not like Greek food, therefore he had to revert to bland American cuisine.

Don't get me wrong, Pappy's is a Good Place To Eat. I would rather spend my $8 for lunch at the nearby Indian buffet.

Nevertheless, if Lamb Curry is not your thang, and you need A Good Place To Eat on this side of town (not many exist,) then Pappy's is the place for you!
