Hello Friend, If you are a community member that would be interested in learning about or participating in the featured projects below, please feel free to contact me! I am very excited about the journey I am on and invite you all to join me! The theme of this month is education. I have been seeking out learning opportunities for myself and those around me. Including:
MeetUps- MeetUp.com is a great way to connect with groups of like minded individuals for networking opportunities, free trainings, and fun! I have met some of the most amazing people and gotten the best FREE trainings at Meet Ups! MeetUp connects you with groups on almost topic or interest from Women Who Like to Hike with Strollers to Peace Activists for Change and every thing you can think of in between. Yes, I am hooked! Youth Hip Hop Congress Chapter- This is a very exciting project! I have a group of extremly artistically motivated teens that want to work together to organize more, all age, culturally diverse events in Auburn. We have already gone to Sacramento State to see Hip-Hop Activist, Chuck D, speak and attended Sacramento's 2nd Saturday Art and Music Festival. The teens are working on seeking out all age events and coordinating more local events. In March they will participate in a Workshop Series that simulates starting a record label. Their hopes are to actually find local teen artists and start a record label for real! Auburn&Sacramento Hip Hop Congress Chapters- On March 14th our groups will be attending a one day Vision Retreat to develop a solid Mission Statement for gaining a more specific 501c3 status. We will also participate in team building exercises and training. The purpose of this is to support programs that encourage the expression of art, inclusion of youth, and building of community. We would like to gain funding for our After-School and Summer Programs such as: The Foundation: Urban Arts Collective&Hip Hop After School Program and Make a Difference Camp. We plan to continue attending trainings pertaining to: Business, Marketing, & Education. Vanessa's Student Government Class- On Wednesdays I have been coordinating speakers and teachers on various topics. Last week Dr.Donna Gallante and her daughter Carina spoke on acknowledging your passions and considering them as career paths or income opportunities now and in the future. Carina spoke on the transition into high- school.
Passion Parties- I have been assisting my sponsor, Amanda, in developing trainings for our team of Consultants on topics including: Success in Direct Sales, Balancing Personal Life when Working from Home, Tips of the Trade, and Speaking and Presentation. To further the success of these projects I am looking for: *Locations for Workshops *Teachers/Speakers for various Youth and Adult Trainings *Venues for Local All Age Events *Income Opportunities *Women in Direct Sales to Collab on some Events Thank you for your time and interest! Peace&Blessings, Natalie Pohley

Cheers to David Lawrensen of Placer High School with his Golden Hillman Band. Once again the students of Auburn demonstrated what is good and wonderful about the youth in our town. The lastest Winter Concert was another example of the cheerful and exceptional leadership that Mr. Lawrensen brings to "our kids" and "our town." I'd encourage anyone who hasn't had the pleasure to attend one of the Placer High School's concerts to put the next one on their calendar. Signed, a proud parent and dedicated fan. Way to go PHS/GHB! You guys are wonderful and

Those are genuine words of wisdom. And those words work in all of the situations in your life when you look at it. When you have something going on in your life, and you need to make a difference in that situation, why would you use something or DO something that only touches the top layer of the problem? Wouldn't you want a much more significant outcome to your situation? If you answer yes to that question, you're not alone. Having that attitude about situations and their outcomes is normal. It's not the least bit selfish. So if you are looking for BIG payoff on your solutions, don't make small decisions. Let me give you an example; My son Sean has Bipolar/ADHD. His mother and I figured out he was Bipolar more than two years ago. We found this out after about a years worth of enduring his episodes and wondering why the medicine he was taking was not working. After doing some internet research, we took a home test, and then when we took him for his monthly interview with the Dr. and both Sue and I presented what we found. He looked at what we had, listened to what we found out and told us, (I'll never forget what he said) "Oh yes, I diagnosed him with Bipolar disorder a couple months ago". My mouth hit the floor. He didn't even tell us. He told us he was changing Sean's medication but didn't state it was because he had a new diagnosis. Come to find out, the prior Dr. had diagnosed Sean with ADHD and prescribed meds for that. Turns out, the meds for the ADHD exacerbated the Bipolar symptoms. That's why our life had so much turmoil for the last year. The new Dr. tells us that the prior Dr. should have looked at Bipolar symptoms because it's important to identify and treat that because alot of the ADHD meds make the Bipolar issues worse. Since that time, Sean's medication is watched and checked monthly, and altered when necessary. The medicine has definitely helped him and our household. The medication Sean has been on for the manic side of his Bipolar was Trileptal. Sounds important doesn't it. "Tri-Lep-Tal". The Dr. prescribed this medication, then increased it, and increased it more (don't get me wrong, this wasn't immediate, there were several months in between each increase). Sean has been on the next to largest dose available. A full adult dose. Let's remember the child is currently 14 years old! So for 1 year, Sean has been taking an adult dose of this "Trileptal". The result? It took the edge off but our house and my relationship with Sue and her children were being torn apart. There has been SO MUCH fallout from Bipolar in this house, it would make the strongest man cringe. But wait, there's more to this example. Recently, we took Sean for his monthly interview at his Dr. We all sat down while Sean did what he has normally done for two years. Not sit still, interrupt and talk over people when they are talking, not do as he is told, give us lip, etc. Well, one thing Sean did that day was he stepped on a weight scale and weighed himself. Turned out Sean weighs way too much for a child of 14. NOT GOOD. The child is 14 years old and about 5ft 6in tall. I'm 44 and 6ft tall. Sean realized he didn't weigh that much different from me (about 80 pounds). Sean was dumb-founded. Sean himself couldn't believe it. Now he was concerned. He told me, "Dad, I'm to big". I replied, "yes Sean you are. Let's talk to the Dr. about it and see what he says" so we did. Turns out, Sean was eating too much due to a side effect in Trileptal that caused the people taking it to crave carbs. Since Sean is not very active, he would eat and gain weight. So, the Dr. did something for Sean that has had a large impact on our lives at home. The Dr. changed Sean's medicine from Trileptol, to a pill named Geodon. Doesn't sound very magical does it? "Geo-doan". The Dr. prescribed a normal dose for Sean to take twice per day. However, since Sean has been on Trilepta for so long, he needed to be "eased" into the new med so his body wouldn't "freak out" due to a sudden change. Now, stay with me here, this is where it gets important. You're probably asking yourself, "what does the Trileptal actually do?" Well, here's your answer. The major purpose of Trileptal is to treat people who suffer from Seizures. The minor purpose that Trileptal is used for is Bipolar disorder. Understand? The pill Sean has been taking for going on 2 years was not treating the MAJOR issue he has which is BIPOLAR Disorder, so consequently, Sean was NOT given the right tool for his situation. He was given a "Pea-shooter" for his gun fight. The Geodon however, IS specifically designed to treat Bipolar disorder. 100%. Geodon is a mood stabilizer. There are no "bonus disorders" for this drug. It's not a "2-fer" pill. Geodon treats Bipolar. Period. Ladies and gentlemen, Sean has been on Geodon for 6 days, and the change in his ability, his attitudes, his outlook on things, his manners, is...(sigh) blissful. But here's where I am at with all this... WHY? Why does a degreed professional like Sean's Dr. prescribe a "pea-shooter" pill to treat Sean's "Gunfight" of a disorder? Are you getting a picture of what I'm talking about? Let me break it down for you. See, for the last 2 going on 3 years, Sue and I and Sean have had to endure the acts of Sean's episodes, his anger, his depression, his frustrations, his disrespect, his disobedience, everything amplified by Bipolar disorder. Yes, kids will be kids, and some of what we were getting from Sean was just him being a kid. I looked at it like this; A terd sandwich is a terd sandwich, it's the size of the sandwich that we were served that I didn't like. Sean being a kid, I can handle. Its Sean being a kid with Godzilla running his brain and stomping on our lives, I can't take. Now, its like night and day around here. Sean is so much better. For six days, Sean has taken the correct pill for his disorder and he is being treated properly. The house is quiet, has been for six days so far. After almost three years of pain and anguish and fighting between us and the household being torn apart, we finally have the right tool for the job and are making the necessary adjustments to the situation. It's a long example I know, but it is a situation that required an adjustment that brought a large solution. That's what I am trying to get across to you here. When you go through a situation that you want corrected, make the correction needed that solves the problem 100% not halfway or less. If you want to break boulders, don't use a Playskool style hammer, use a SLEDGE HAMMER. You can't break rocks by rubbing them gently, you have to SMACK them as hard as you can with a large hammer! Here's some more help. If you have someone living in your house that doesn't pay you rent for living there, and takes advantage of you and your life, kick his/her ass out! No excuses, no compromises. No "OK, here's what were gonna do" type of compromising, BOOT THE LOSER/LOSER-ETTE OUT! All of his/her property out on the sidewalk, BAM! shut the door behind him/her, BAM! Bolt the lock, don't answer the door when they knock. BAM BAM BAM!!! That's "bringing a gun to a gunfight". Plus, you have made a decision for you! Don't you feel better now? Problem solved. One more example of what I'm talking about; My Daughter had/has a male friend (we're still not clear on that). At the time, it was confirmed that he was the boyfriend, so as the supportive parental figures that Sue and I are, we got both the daughter and her "mate" cell phones and we paid the monthly bill. All we asked is that they watch the minutes, and not abuse the opportunity. Soon after, the boyfriends phone started to increase the amount of internet time used, plus there was a surprise charge of 9.99 on our bill plus a new recurring charge of 3.00 per month that Sue couldn't account for. After some questioning with our phone service, and some other research, it was determined that the boyfriend had bought a service for his phone that he did not seek permission for from Sue or myself AND he did not let us know that the service incurred a monthly "maintenance" charge of 3.00 per month! Now, keep in mind its only 3.00 per month so the charge really was not the issue. The issue was there was no prior notice by the boyfriend. We had to find this out on our own. That to me is disrespectful. He was abusing the opportunity. So after some discussion between Sue and I, we decided to just let it ride because of the importance of having a phone. Then later on, the boyfriend decided that he was not going to work anymore or look for a job, that it was the daughter's responsibility to provide the money for the house, keep the house clean, take care of the child, that he "didn't have the energy or interest in finding a job" for. Well, right there, Sue and I made an adjustment to a situation. His phone was shut off. From the point where we heard verbatim what he had decided about his obligation to the place where he was living and his child, it only took 3 minutes and he had no more cell phone. BAM! See? Sue and I had a situation, (boyfriend abusing his opportunity) and we solved it. BAM! Now, if he doesn't want to work, that's fine. We're not supporting his leisure time. No FREE rides. Problem solved. "You want a phone? Get it yourself". Now we save money on our phone bill which helps us stay happy and that's what its all about, right? Listen, there are people out there in the world that will take advantage of you in a second if you let them. IF YOU LET THEM. There are circumstances out there that will bring hardship to you and to your family unit if you let it happen. IF YOU LET IT HAPPEN. Never bring a Pea-shooter to a gun fight. Your time on this earth is bound to have some "gun fights" in it. Make the corrections needed to end the gunfight 100%. That's what I do. Why?....Because, "That's How I Do

The Placer division department Attorney’s bureau is cautioning victims of the recent 49 Fire in Auburn to be aware of unautorized builders who offer or submit bids to repair or rebuild homes or structures.
It is against state law for any person to do contracting job totaling more than $500 in labor and materials without having a valid contractor’s license, unless that person has been granted an exemption, the department Attorney’s bureau stated.
Sixty-three homes were destroyed during the Aug. 30 fire that spread through nearly 350 acres in North Auburn, off Highway 49.
Because the 49 Fire was proclaimed a state of emergency by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, any violation by an unautorized contractor for repair job could be prosecuted as a felony.
Assistant department Attorney Scott Owens said his bureau “must protect against further victimization” of those citizens who lost homes or sustained damage.
“This will include prosecution of unautorized builders who prey upon the unwary,” Owens said.
The Placer division department Attorney’s bureau will partner with the builders State Licensing Board (CSLB), which is planning to conduct sweep and sting operations in the Auburn area where homes were destroyed or damaged.
“We have posted signs throughout the burn area warning the homeowners about unautorized builders,” CSLB Registrar Steve Sands said. “If our investigators see people doing job, we will talk to them and find out if they are properly autorized. If they are not legitimate, they could be cited or arrested.”
Those caught contracting without a license in a declared disaster area could face fines up to $10,000 or imprisonment for up to three years.
The CSLB is warning citizens and businesses not to hire the first contractor who comes along.
“Take your time and protect yourself against con artists who will take your money and run – or (against) incompetent builders who will perform shoddy job,” Sands said. “Hire only autorized builders and check their qualifications with the board.”

builders jobing on a job -- from debris removal to rebuilding -- totaling $500 or more for labor and materials must be autorized by the CSLB.
To become autorized, a contractor must pass a licensing examination, verify at least four years of journey-level experience and carry a license bond. As of July 1, 2005, all new autorized builders have also had to pass a criminal background check.
The CSLB urges consumers to follow a series of tips when dealing with a building contractor.
These include hiring only autorized builders and asking to see the license, verifying the contractor's license by checking online and by not rushing into hiring the first contractor who submits a bid.
The CSLB also cautions consumers not to pay more than 10 percent down or $1,000, whichever is less, and to not pay cash or let the payments get ahead of the job.
Consumers should always get three bids, check references and then get a written contract. Consumers should contact the CSLB if they have a complaint against a

Welcome to Fall! I'm excited to share with you how to guard your vitality, non-drug pain relief, and restore your deepest peace as the center of your life! Along those lines I pose these questions, "how often are you really engaging in Health-Care"? OR "Are you merely managing Dis-Ease expression aka.Symptoms"? "The Problem with Health Care is the Pervasive Fantasy that We Can Treat It as a Consumer Good!Health and healing are not consumer goods. Why would one think we could treat health care as one? If consuming health care actually made people healthier, there could never be enough. Our society would have to ration it explicitly. When policy makers consider the issue of how to distribute health care, they get carried away with economic models, and forget about the underlying issue. In economic terms, individuals pay for goods and services to achieve a desired result, yet healing doesn't work that way. We might buy short-term control of the manifestation of distress, but that purchase undermines our ability to use that expression of distress to sort out the factors that create it"... The preceeding words come from the blog of my main mentor and teacher for Classical Chinese Medicine, see About Steven Alpern, L.Ac. To read his entire blog please visit: http://www.ccmforhealing.com/blog/
The content of this particular blog entry is so important and currently salient I'm including it here for your benefit and enjoyment: "Health and healing are a matter of cultivation. We might even consider them a life-style, but try as we might we cannot make them into consumer goods. Health comes from the inside, and suppressing the signs of physiological distress (Symptoms)doesn't bring it back. We can't buy health any more than we can buy love. For either health or love, it may appear for a short time that one can buy it, but doing so only introduces the unquenchable thirst for more purchases. Trying to turn them into consumer goods subverts their very nature. Health (like love) flourishes when individuals invest in it! Health flourishes when an embodied spirit invests in its individuality, and suffers when the individual's alignment with life wavers. Pay attention to facilitating vital function (listening to how our choices impact our health), rather than simply the desire to enjoy your experience (aka. not paying attention to our bodies' needs &/or ways of communicating its distress to us - symptoms). Make decisions based on what your embodied spirit expresses, and you will tend to grow healthier. Yet, simple as it sounds, following that injunction isn't always easy. Sometimes people need to experience the discomfort of the healing process. The challenge of health care is NOT financial, it's technical. We will start conquering it when we explore how to resolve disease, rather than maintaining it by managing expression (symptoms).
I'm also including the following (2) articles because some of you have not seen them. The previous reaction to them was so positive I wanted to make sure all of you had a chance to see them and take action. If you're living with any kind of physical PAIN you'll want to read the article below on the Classical Chinese Medical (CCM) view of pain in the body, "CCM Viewpoint on PAIN". I realized recently that I can share the most precious aspect of healing, and most beloved aspect of my practice OVER THE PHONE! CCM has long espoused that the deepest aspect of healing is the healing of, "The Spirit", aka. Spiritual Healing. I can now share what I love to do most, and bring the most important aspect of healing right to you in the comfort of your own home! See the article below on "The Power Spiritual Healing". Many Blessings! Bill Wright, L.Ac.
CCM Viewpoint on PAIN
Life is fundamentally about movement, and Summer is the high point of activity for the whole year. Don't let pain make you miss out on all the fun there is to be had this time of year. I'm here to help. I'm constantly amazed at how my children move! They have so much energy, and they move every joint in their bodies in every direction imaginable many times each day. There are functional changes that cause us to loose that youthful vitality, and we can dramatically slow those functional changes, if not turn them around. You know how a lot of people want to get out of pain and feel better? Well Chinese Medicine (CM) supports the bodies own natural ability to decrease pain, and helps support our bodies to get moving freely again so we can feel better. We have so many choices to either support our ability to move freely, or loose it. If you're living with pain there's something you need to know. The Chinese Physicians and Martial Artists throughout the centuries have developed a sophisticatedsystem of Orthopedics to treat painful conditions and support continued freedom of movement, and it doesn't involve drugs. According to CM, our freedom of pain free movement depends on free and uninterrupted flow of Qi (vital processes and communication pathways) and Blood. And that there are several disrupting factors that block either or both of those vital substances. The blocks to our Qi and Blood come in many forms that CM describes in terms of Wind, Damp, Cold, Heat, and Blood Stagnation (poor circulation). One or more of these blocks may be present in your painful condition. With my training I can discern which blocks are active based on how the pain is behaving, and treat the underlying blocks so the body heals what is causing the pain as opposed to just minimizing the pain with drugs. PAIN IS A MESSENGER! When we erradicate it with drugs we have not cured the underlying cause, just postponed the effects of the underlying blockage(s) that the body was struggling with, and using pain to get our attention. It also bears mentioning not only does CM address the underlying blockages, but we can also support the source of your Qi and Blood to better do battle against the blocks in your body that are leading to the PAIN your feeling. We all grew up with the addage, "be careful! You might hurt yourself". Well, actually, "DON'T be too careful! You might hurt yourself". Huh? If we let ourselves be too cautious we miss out on too much of LIFE, and that leads to a deeper pain of the soul. What are the consequences of you not taking care of the blockages leading to your pain? What are you missing out on? What are the long term consequences of limited range of motion due to the pain? I can tell you. RUST and GLUE continuing to build up in your muscles, tissues, and joints. It's not really rust and glue, but it sure describes how some of us feel when we loose a joints pain-free ability to move. Call my office today to start reversing the Dis-Ease process, and not just managing it so it can 'pop-out' some other day, and in some other way - 530-886-8927 _____________________________________________________________________________________________ The Power of Spiritual Healing
The first branch (out of eight) of Classical Chinese Medicine (CCM) is, "Spiritual Healing". Many of my patients have experienced this aspect of my work, and have given me great feedback as to how valuable the Spiritual Healing work has been for them. Also, what a HUGE impact it has had on all aspects of their overall health, healing, joy, and well-being. My epiphany was due to the realization that I don't have to work face to face with you to do this work. IT CAN BE DONE OVER THE PHONE! I know we're all very busy, and that makes TAKING TIME FOR OURSELVES THAT MUCH MORE IMPORTANT. The power of, 'Spiritual Healing' is that it often pinpoints those things directly, like a laser-beam, that are holding us back, or are the roots of the DIS-EASE we experience in our bodies. I'm often asked, "why did you decide to pursue Acupuncture as a career"? I've come to realize that my life is all about healing, and learning to share that with others. The first area of healing I was drawn to and studied was Spiritual Healing. That was over twenty years ago! And it still remains my main interest, and area of healing that I feel is fundamental to a happy and healthy life! I'm really excited at the possibility of sharing this work with you in a way that can fit into your busy life! The sessions are one half hour, and cost $75/session. Call my office @ 530-886-8927 to set up your Spiritual Healing session*. *Keep in mind that because I can do this work over the phone I'm not limited to only working with patients in this area. So if you have loved ones that you feel could benefit from this work, they are eligible for this FREE Spiritual Healing session as well. Again, have them call my office to set up their
