COSTCO comes to Auburn.....Hooray!!!

Posted by DJ MC in Untagged

This is probably the best news that I've read in the Sentinel (or Urinal) in the 20 years I've lived in the foothills.

Millions of tons of carbon dioxide and pollutants will be saved annually, as Grass Valley and Colfax residents will no longer have to drive "Down The Hill" for their weekly "Costco Run."

The only downside that I see, is that gas stations will suffer, Eisley Nursery will go belly up (Costco's nursery is about 70% cheaper on trees, shrubs, etc). That's a small price to pay for the environmental benefits of a local Costco.

Did I mention that I LOVE COSTCO?

Best Buy, Home Depot opening soon?

Posted by DJ MC in Untagged

Is anyone else excited about the new electronics & home improvement stores opening soon in Auburn?

Finally, no more driving "down the hill" to Roseville/Rocklin for essential stuff.

& feel free to comment about how these "Big Box" stores will put locals out of business, yada yada yada.

Feng Shui in the Foothills?

Posted by DJ MC in successlifehuman potentialhome improvementhealthfeng shuifamily

My family has been self-taught in this asian practice, having read many of the top authorities in the field (including Daniel Kennedy's "Feng Shui For Dummies").

Many of the concepts seem like "voodoo" or "snake oil" but there is almost no cost to many of the "cures" prescribed in these books.

You don't need to hire an expensive "Feng Shui Practitioner" to examine your residence for Feng Shui flaws......just go online and "Google" the subject and you'll find a plethora of web sites that will provide oodles of information.

Another curious aspect of Feng Shui is that you don't have to believe in it, in order for it to work! My wife, daughter, and myself are all very skeptical and continue to say its "wacky" and "silly" but the cures we have tried continue to work to this day.

I'd like to see more discussion locally about this curious topic.

Should there be an interest in a discussion group, I'd be happy to lend my expertise (and experience) with various Feng Shui cures that we've implemented in our home.

Trader Joe's is coming to Auburn: Fact or Fiction?

Posted by DJ MC in winestoreshoppingproduceliquorgroceryfood

Recently, it was reported in the Auburn Journal that Trader Joe's is planning a store in Auburn, California.

If true, this is really great news! If the rumors are true, the new Trader Joe's location will be in the old Ralph's Supermarket at the corner of Highway 49 and Bell Road.

Some of the great products that Trader Joe's carries include their very famous "Charles Shaw" wines for only $2 a bottle. Commonly referred to as "Two Buck Chuck"....Charles Shaw wines have won Gold Medals in wine competitions, most recently at the Orange County Fair.

Another thing Trader Joe's does well is dried fruits and nuts. They have great frozen foods, even a good line of pet foods too. If they choose the old "Ralphs" spot, they'll have plenty of space for a "Flagship" store.

Hopefully this is not a pipe dream, and will actually happen in our lifetimes!

Whats next? Costco or Home Depot? (wishes do come true!!!)
