Book Review: For All Who Love The Game

Posted by mediamaven in writerTravelPlacer CountyGrass ValleyGolf

Finished reading this book a couple of months ago.  It took forever to write a review... have been pretty busy during the week with work.

For those who appreciate the game of golf, proper equitette, stories of teaching others and them basically turning professional at some point.  Loved the entire book. Only been playing golf for a year and continue to enjoy every aspect of the game.

He wrote this from a teaching perspective. Talks about all of his golf lessons with his students at Austin Country Club in West Texas.  He writes about his experiences playing golf, ladies having too high of a handicap, adjusting their swings, games and making the cut of tournaments.  What a fantastic teacher this Harvey Penick is. He also talks about Bobby Jones.

Back to more book thoughts....

Most of his students went on to become professional golfers.  He taught them every part of the golf game from bunker shots, alignment, pre-shot routine, putting, etc...

Half the time, I'd pull out the trusty USGA Rule Book and figure out exactly what he was talking about.  Know how everything is scored, how to establish your handicap, having confidence in your golf game, pitch shot, bunker shots, teeing off, fairways.

Found a bit of information from a recent blog that I wrote about a lesson out at the Ridge on How to read your putts:

Approach the greens, assess the lie, slope of the land. Also whether your putt it is uphill, downhill or across any slope. Controlling the speed of the putt is key. I observed how the putt was going to break either left, right or straight. I picked my break or spot. Then pick your target out as a straight line, hit your ball at the right speed and it will take the break.

Really enjoyed reading this book a lot.  Hope it inspires you to at least to take a lesson and give golf a try.

For All Who Love The Game by Harvey Penick

Posted by mediamaven in Untagged

Recieved a book about Lessons and Teachings for Women Golfers from AM 950 KAHI MUSIC/GOLF CONNECTIONS Host Loyce Smallwood a few weeks back.  Thank you very much Loyce for the book.

The Golf Vixen suggested reading a book a day, so took her advice and plunged in. Started reading it today and found a lot of different aspects in the book that will help enhance my golf game.  They say the good players always visualize their shots. This is true.  The swing is a feeling.  As Orhan, Golf Instructor over at The Ridge says: "Feel the Feel", "Dance with your club."

Last week, practiced learning how to read a put from the fringe of the green.  Going to take time to figure that out, but learning is part of the process.

Only about halfway into the book and will post a complete book review later on.

Here is the link to read some of it online: http://www.amazon.com/gp/reader/0684867346/ref=sib_dp_pt#reader-link

Movie Review: The Secret

Posted by mediamaven in Untagged

Normally, do not write movie reviews on here, but figured I'd make do. This week a friend loaned me The Secret.  Popped into my stormin' green laptop and enjoyed!

The Secret gave me The Power to Believe in myself again and it was enpowering too. It was one of those movies that brought a positive life changing experiences which are happening at this very moment.

Got a new job on Friday. Start this Monday and the work fits me perfectly. It also incorporates a lot of my public speaking skills, communication skills, and media/print.

Looking forward to a new start.  It will be exciting. Going in the right direction helps. The movie mentioned that a lot. To follow your bliss.

Rating: five stars

Gained a lot of musical insight into Johnny Cash, June Carter and Patsy Cline. Linda Lareau owner of Courthouse Coffee enjoyed our company and engaged in our Round Table Discussion.  Of course took some notes.

Many Opportunities in Auburn

Posted by mediamaven in sportsGolfentertainmentCommunity

The AM 950 KAHI Connections Program was incredible.  Sid Dakota is an amazing folk/country music artist that plays locally.  On the Golf Connection, Loyce had on Golfer George Kazeszki and Golfer/Publisher of the Foresthill Messenger Jim Lindsau.   Over at Courthouse Coffee for the Round Table Discussion featured: George Kazeszki, Barry Stigers of Barry in The Morning on AM 950 KAHI, Diana Farr Sales Manager of The Ridge Golf Course, Loyce host of AM 950 KAHI Connections and even Golfer Spencer Strand.  It was a joy to connect with Spencer again.  Talked a lot about golf and other fun stuff.

Had the priviledge of doing some interviewing with George Kazeszki. George is a fascinating man having traveled all over the world playing golf in Australia, Canada, Mexico and all over the United States. He used to be a Deputy Sherriff for San Mateo, CA.  You will find out more about him in an upcoming article in the Foresthill Messenger.

Following this interview, will have the opportunity of interviewing Barry Stigers of Barry in The Morning on AM 950 KAHI.  A few things about Barry is he is a musician and has been in radio all of his life.  He loves to play golf.

Enjoying the opportunity of continuing the connection with Jim Lindsau.  He has provided several opportunities to get my writing published in the Foresthill Messenger. Thank you very much Jim!

Continuing to network/connect with Diana Farr, Sales Manager at the Ridge Colf Course in Auburn, CA.  She is a very nice lady and we all appreciate the work she does in the surrounding community.

Blessed to have joined Loyce over at the Ridge for practice and putting.  Have had many opportunities to play at The Ridge too. Will be playing again in a few weeks.  Have had the opportunity to have instruction too.  There are so many wonderful opportunities in Auburn.  It is nice to be back in town. Thank you very much Loyce for providing such wonderful opportuinties to connect with people in the Foothills Community of Auburn.

Owner Linda Lareau of Courthouse Coffee got into the discussion with the Round Table Group too.  She is a joy to have around. Thank you very much Linda for providing such a wonderful coffee shop for the community of Auburn.

Head over to the Round Table at 10am over at Courthouse Coffee on Thursdays at 1425 Lincoln Way.  You never know who you are going to meet.

Back in Auburn

Posted by mediamaven in familyentertainmentbusiness

Enjoyed a delicious latte over at Courthouse Coffee and chatted with Courthouse Coffee Owner Linda Lareau. The drive up yesterday was not bad at all. Clear skies and a gorgeous warm day.

It is great to be back in the Auburn Community and connecting with the local community. The radio broadcasting career is being restablished again.

Made another connection/contact with the Promotions Director at 103.9 FM The Fish. He used to work at Americom Broadcasting as the Programming Director for Alice 96.5 Fm and knows the General Manager and the New programming Director Beej.

It was wonderful to be able to connect with the Sacramento Broadcasting world this morning. From there, headed down to Trader Joes, where the grocery list had grown to a few more things from the older sister and mom.

Life is great and it is wonderful to be back in this gorgeous community of Auburn, CA.

Looking forward to chatting away on Thursday morning at  Courthouse Coffee at 10am.

Reconnecting on AM 950 KAHI Connections Program

Posted by mediamaven in Untagged

Called in on Loyces AM 950 KAHI Connections Program to hear the lovely sounds of Cheri Murray The Legendary Saloon Singer out of the Sacramento Area. She even had a radio show, which is so cool! A wonderful guest and hope she comes back again!

Golf Connection Program: LPGA Pro/Golf Instructor/Coach Carol French and Craig French provided tips for the avid golfer and their game. Very entertaining indeed.

The entertaintment continued with Linda Lareau owner of Courthouse Coffee calling in on the Golf Connection Program and asked about cheating by moving your golf ball on the course.

Laughed a lot from her question. Great question Linda :)

I'm ready to soar back into the media and this time in Sacramento.  Things are happening! Positive changes ahead.
