The Business of Bees

One third of the food we eat is directly or indirectly dependent on honeybees or pollination. If bees were gone, U.S. agricultural production would lose [...]

With the fourth of July approaching the planning is underway for a family get together and for me this means great food which equals lots of play time in the kitchen for chefs of all ages.

We have much to celebrate, and some wounds to lick as well. So, I am going to soak up all the baking therapy that I can. Here are a couple of our favorite recipies. These are great for little helpers as well.

Before the baking can begin We will set the mood. I like to make the kitchen as [...]

My quilty pleasure........

Ever since I can remember the process of baking cookies made it all better. If I was sad, heart broken or lonely my mom would bring me into the kitchen and we would bake.

We sometimes did not even talk. My mom did things from scratch. I love organizing the bowls, spoons, all the ingredients. Feeling the oven warm.

By the time the mixing started whatever was weighing my heart down do not seem so big.

Our favorite Cookie Rec [...]

May Travels

Webster's College dictionary's describes travel as: To go from one place to another, as by car, train, plane, or ship; a journey. Currently that journey is going to be expensive with fuel at new all time levels. Pessimist or optimist; is that gas tank half-empty or half full? As I see it, one of two things is going to happen: 1) People are going to stay home; or 2) The travel industry is going to offer enticing discounts to draw customers to their destinations.& [...]

MANDELA

Very much enjoyed watching the movie Mandela and de Klerk, the story of Nelson Mandela played by the wonderful Sidney Poitier and Michael Caine as F.W. de Klerk. Of course the acting is excellent and the story is riveting and what a relief: No profanity or nudity. Unfortunately, because of the nature of apartheid/segregation, violence was depicted in a graphic manner--all offset by the stimulating conversations of Mandela and de Klerk in their attempts to end the violence [...]

Enjoyed a delicious latte over at Courthouse Coffee and chatted with Courthouse Coffee Owner Linda Lareau. The drive up yesterday was not bad at all. Clear skies and a gorgeous warm day.

It is great to be back in the Auburn Community and connecting with the local community. The radio broadcasting career is being restablished again.

Made another connection/contact with the Promotions Director at 103.9 FM The Fish.
Just enjoyed very much a movie titled The Gunfighter with Gregory Peck and while this tale is one of violence, I enjoyed the story which is depicted by the great Peck and guess what? This wonderful film is in black and white, has minimum killing, little graphic depiction of the violence, no profanity and yet the message is clear: Violence begets violence and man has a choice. The film is beautifully acted by Peck and supporting actors Mitchell Mallard and Helen Westcott ad [...]

The day that many have been waiting for has arrived...the opening of the Auburn Alehouse!! On June 21st, Brian Ford (Founder and Brewmaster) opens the doors to the general public.

In talking with Brian, I can see the excitement and thrill in his eyes (and possibly relief) in seeing a more than four year old dream finally become reality. In fact, he spent about 2 years just looking for the perfect location. The shuttering of the Shanghai was the perfect opportunity and loc [...]
