Green Life Ecological Designs & Consulting presents "green-life skills" at Placer Nature Center, Saturday, November 8 from 12pm - 1pm
What does it mean to live green? Green Life Ecological Designs & Consulting will present simple steps to green your lifestyle on Saturday, November 8th from 12-1PM at Placer Nature Center. Eco-friendly living and business practices are easier than most people think and are healthier for adults, children, pets and the environment.
The workshop, "How to Take Steps Toward a Greener Lifestyle," will discuss important topics such as local living, ecological and carbon footprints and using non-toxic products in the home. It is not necessary to turn your life upside-down to be "green"-it just takes a shift in perspective.
Cheri Charles, founder of Green Life Ecological Designs & Consulting in Grass Valley, and Lindsay Daley, former director of the Solar Living Institute in Hopland, will be on hand to lead participants down a greener path. Contrary to what some people think, many green living practices can also help you save the green in your wallet. Charles and Daley will take participants beyond re-use, reduce and recycle to a greater overall awareness of day-to-day living.
A little change can go a long way. If recycling just one glass bottle is enough to power a light bulb for four hours - imagine all the energy the country could save if we recycled only half of the glass we use and switched to low-energy lighting!
Each person produces about four pounds of garbage each day. All that trash stays in landfills for 30 years, leaching chemicals into the soil; the rest (roughly 14 billion pounds) is dumped into the ocean every year. A lot of this ocean trash ends up in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, a stew of trash that is 80 percent plastic and weighs some 3.5 million tons, twice the size of Texas, and still growing.
Admission to this workshop helps fund Placer Nature Center's ongoing programs for environmental education. Individuals are $5, or save money by carpooling and buy a pair of tickets for $8. Also open for exploration will be the Nature Center's Main Exhibit Hall and WaterShed Learning Center, Discovery Lab, Maidu Village, Demonstration Garden and The Nature Shop.
