OLD TOWN CHANGES

Posted by Loyce in sportsshoppingrestaurantsrestaurantenjoymentauburnArts

Bouncing around Old Town Auburn today was pleased to learn about all the changes taking place starting with the Gold Rush Mall where I learned Mimi of  The Silver Store will soon take the best location in the front of the mall; congrats to Mimi who has waited well over a decade for this opp.  Mahogany Gail moves to Tea Thyme up Sacramento Street as TT is now out of business.  Roseanne has opened a boutique in the back of the mall next to the veteran Sharon Stanley of  South of  The Border.  The Brookside eatery appears to be holding its own while Stan of  The Gold store is suffering with a serious injury and the Indian store has folded their tent.  I was very impressed with the scintillating lustre of  The OT Gallery and enjoyed my connection with the always enthusiastic Doreen Kidd who waxed joyously about the success of the Gallery.  Congrats to Kidd and all the creative artists.  Enjoyed a cup with Courthouse Coffee Owner Linda Lareau and daughter Lisa with her fashion-grooved daughter sitting outside on the sunny patio.  Headed over for a visit with good pal Syl Bruce who had her staff re-inventorying at the new location at the end of  High Street where Syl says she is happy in her new digs and will soon advertise a grand opening.   Plan on eating at Pasquale Ts next week at their new location next to the Downtown clock tower.  As a consumer, I'm pleased with all the changes and look forward to my shopping/dining choices in our happy hamlet.

The AM 950 KAHI Connections Program was incredible.  Sid Dakota is an amazing folk/country music artist that plays locally.  On the Golf Connection, Loyce had on Golfer George Kazeszki and Golfer/Publisher of the Foresthill Messenger Jim Lindsau.   Over at Courthouse Coffee for the Round Table Discussion featured: George Kazeszki, Barry Stigers of Barry in The Morning on AM 950 KAHI, Diana Farr Sales Manager of The Ridge Golf Course, Loyce host of AM 950 KAHI Connections and even Golfer Spencer Strand.  It was a joy to connect with Spencer again.  Talked a lot about golf and other fun stuff.

Had the priviledge of doing some interviewing with George Kazeszki. George is a fascinating man having traveled all over the world playing golf in Australia, Canada, Mexico and all over the United States. He used to be a Deputy Sherriff for San Mateo, CA.  You will find out more about him in an upcoming article in the Foresthill Messenger.

Following this interview, will have the opportunity of interviewing Barry Stigers of Barry in The Morning on AM 950 KAHI.  A few things about Barry is he is a musician and has been in radio all of his life.  He loves to play golf.

Enjoying the opportunity of continuing the connection with Jim Lindsau.  He has provided several opportunities to get my writing published in the Foresthill Messenger. Thank you very much Jim!

Continuing to network/connect with Diana Farr, Sales Manager at the Ridge Colf Course in Auburn, CA.  She is a very nice lady and we all appreciate the work she does in the surrounding community.

Blessed to have joined Loyce over at the Ridge for practice and putting.  Have had many opportunities to play at The Ridge too. Will be playing again in a few weeks.  Have had the opportunity to have instruction too.  There are so many wonderful opportunities in Auburn.  It is nice to be back in town. Thank you very much Loyce for providing such wonderful opportuinties to connect with people in the Foothills Community of Auburn.

Owner Linda Lareau of Courthouse Coffee got into the discussion with the Round Table Group too.  She is a joy to have around. Thank you very much Linda for providing such a wonderful coffee shop for the community of Auburn.

Head over to the Round Table at 10am over at Courthouse Coffee on Thursdays at 1425 Lincoln Way.  You never know who you are going to meet.

Looking forward to Dakota Sid guesting tomorrow, Thursday, on KAHI CONNECTIONS.  Sid "grabs the audience in the gut" says Bill Varbie of the Medford Mail Tribune so we shall see.  At 9:30am Jim Linsdau, Publisher of the Foresthill Messenger and fellow golfer George Kazezski guest on THE GOLF CONNECTION; and at 10am I head over to Courthouse Coffee to enjoy the post-program connections where Barry Stigers, Liz Pope and Dina Farr usually drop in.  Should the weather clear up, I'll point the golfmobile in the direction of  The Ridge to practice the swing and putting so I can be on point Friday when I join up with pal Donna Arz for an enjoyable experience out on the green carpet.  Home Sweet Home

CRANKING UP THE MIRTH METER

So enjoyed the experience today:  Hosted Zoo-Keeper/musician Gary Bowman at KAHI where we cranked up the mirth meter by playing Bowman's new CD with animal sounds/theme.  Bowman also shared his interesting background and talked about meeting Jane Goodall.  On the golf program I chatted with Shawn Kelly, pro/instruction at The Ridge, about the short game and Kelly gave his opinions on golf etiquette.  After the programs, we all headed over to Courthouse Coffee and joined The Ridge Sales Manager Diana Farr, golfers Liz Pope and Spencer Strand and were also joined by KAHI programmers Barry Stigers and Stewart Schurr.  No dues/rules/structure--just good community connections at our Round Table group.   Picked up my newly fitted clubs at The Ridge and headed home and look forward to a joyous time on the links tomorrow with good friend Donna Arz.  And now you know why I NEVER LEAVE HOME to travel.

COMMUNITY TIES

Being a non-joiner, I am pleased with the turn-out at our Round Table group at Courthouse Coffee in Old Town, meeting Thursdays at 10am after the CONNECTIONS program on 950AM KAHI.  On Thursday I will host entertaining musician/singer Clod Headgate at 9am followed at 9:30am by local Golf Vixen Cirbie Sheppard who will talk about her media ties with the Golf Channel.  Terry Love, instructor at Dark Horse in Nevada County will co-guest and, hopefully, all will join in at The Round Table gathering where the public is invited to add to the casual conversation about the community.  Welcome back to girl golfer Liz Pope on her return from Reno, Nevada.  Liz and CHC owner Linda Lareau are top fans of  KAHI CONNECTIONS and can always be counted on for their call-ins to the programs.

Experienced a joyous day Thursday with guest Cheri Murphy and her rich jazzy singing on KAHI CONNECTIONS and re-connected with Carol/Greg French who guested on THE GOLF CONNECTION.   Post-show, we all headed over to Courthouse Coffee for coffee/chat and connected with Cirby the Golf Vixen who connected with golfer Spencer; and were joined by Big Bad Barry who chatted up Cheri Murphy.  Headed out to the former Red Wagon restaurant on Combie in Nevada County, now under new ownership and called Northridge.  Enjoyed a hamburger/fries and chatted with Husband Jack.  Returned home to roses/candy/baloons/golf shoes with a smile on my face for the perfect day.   Played nine holes today with Donna Arz and Randy and Kurt--good golfers they are--at our favorite place, The Ridge, where Donna and I enjoyed our tasty lunch out on the greens.  I love/love/love it all.  After the nine holes, headed back and caught up with Husband Jack and Stewart Schurr, Dr. PC., who were sunning/dining on the spacious deck.  Ended up home and received some valuable computer tips from Stewart and then received a work-out by the skilled body mechanic Gabrielle Pullen.  I'll sleep tonight.  Oh yeah.

MAXIMIZING THE MIRTH

Determined to hold my own against the quirky forces which seems to be shifting the collective consciousness.  Pleased with my choices in Auburn, I've been connecting with pals Spencer and Donna at The Ridge where divine splendor awaits.  This week on KAHI CONNECTIONS, "the legend" jazz singer Cheri Murphy drops by to entertain and connect with our community at The Round Table at Courthouse Coffee.  This morning I head out to Downtown Auburn to enjoy a tasty breakfast at the Auburn Grille where Commander Jack revels in Kim's home-style jam and fluffy eggs and, hey, what about that fresh fruit cup replete with mandarins?  After a check-in with CHC Owner Linda Lareau--and perhaps a walk about Old Town--I'll head this bod toward Raspberry for a round of golf, solo.  Be still this heart which is now in a serene state of  relief due to Stewart Schur, owner of  Dr. PC Computers, who restored my computer to working order.  All happening in Auburn.  Watch out.

LIVING LARGE ON THE LINKS

After a happy Reiki session with Donna Arz, I flew out to The Ridge Golf Course,  joined by the laid-back Spencer, and enjoyed all nine holes under an open sky and lush greens.  Spencer and I re-connected and set another date for next Wednesday.  Chatted with friendly concierge Lisa and bookkeeper Craig and headed home, happy, and continued with the momentum by walking Millie The Meek who was joined by our step-dog Chipper The Free.  Reiki, a  sunny day, compansionship and golf and I'm feeling pleased with my lifestyle choices.  Auburn really has it all for this golfer.  Oh yeah.

STAGING IN AUBURN

Was it Shakespear that said "All the world's a stage"?  I choose to bring colorful characters to my Auburn radio stage and this coming Thursday I will host actor Perry King who has starred in Lords of The Flatbush and Slaughterhouse Five and scored in Riptide on televison.  King is a unpretentious, humble individual and it will be good to re-connect with him after two years since he last guested on KAHI.  My guests are local and King is just that in that his daughter lives in Cool and is often visited by her father.  On the golf segment, the carefree Terry Love from Dark Horse, will bring his colorful persona to the game of golf.  It is fun to interreact and connect with vibrant, colorful characters connected with our community.  Applause.

MONDAZE

Loyce
Mondays can be challenging after a lazy Sunday; but the bounce factor worked today as I discovered a new store on Highway 49 in the Dry Creek Plaza:  The Clothing Rack offers gently used clothing/accessories  with designer labels for the family and Husband Jack scored with difficult-to-find rugby shirts.   A fan of traditional/vintage sportswear, I'll return for another search as The Clothing Rack is on my circuit traveling home.   I finally made it out to Combie Rd. to Double Cuts Salon where the capable Toni sheared away some of the summer growth and I headed out to The Ridge for some putting practice as the Fall season has shortened the range practice.  As I say, those of us who adapt, are less frustrated.   All-in-all, today rates as a productive one as I even managed to fit in some grocery shopping and fended off frustration with a computer snag by calling that whiz-kid Cristina, co-owner of Dr. PC Repair.  I'm more than ready to attack Tuesday and what with this great weather, it's all win/win.   Smile.
