An appeal of a planning commission finding that Chevreaux Aggregates of Meadow Vista has a legal permit to operate is scheduled to be considered by the Placer County Board of Supervisors on November 7, starting at 1:30 p.m. The board was to have considered Richard Goodwin’s appeal last week but postponed the hearing at the request of Planning Director Michael Johnson.

It was Johnson’s finding last May that triggered the appeal. Johnson opined that Chevreaux’s 1972 permit is legal. Goodwin appealed Johnson’s finding to the county planning commission, which sided with Johnson on a 5-1 vote. Goodwin then appealed the commission’s ruling to the board of supervisors. Johnson has suggested that the board conduct the November 7 appeal hearing in the planning commission’s hearing room at DeWitt Center.

The 16-month conflict between the City of Auburn and Ernest Shih, once its $80,000-a-year information technology chief and employee of the year, has ended, but neither party is out celebrating.

The 72nd annual Miss Auburn Pageant was held last Saturday and two young women will serve as the new ambassadors of Auburn over the next year.

District 5 Supervisor Bruce Kranz’s requests that $1,000 in general fund “revenue sharing” funds be allocated to the North Lake Tahoe Boys and Girls Club and $500 to the Meadow Vista Community Center have been approved by his board colleagues. The allocations were recommended by Kranz’s District 5 Benefit Fund Committee.

It’s taken years of discussion and even some wrangling, but it appears that development of the Baltimore Ravine area in the southwest corner of Auburn is a strong possibility in coming years.

At its September 24 meeting, the city council authorized contracting with a consulting firm, PBS&J of Sacramento, to prepare an environmental impact report for the Baltimore Ravine specific plan. The area is viewed as one of the last residentially developable large tracts in the city.

A 47-year-old male reported that an unknown suspect started a backhoe parked on his property on Foresthill Road, knocked down two pine trees, built two dirt berms, then re-parked the backhoe undamaged.

Two gentlemen residing on Green Acres Road in Colfax reported the theft of approximately eleven 6-10 inch tall marijuana plants from their yard. 

Sept. 25 Bubble Gum Bandit
Employees of a supermarket on Grass Valley Hwy. in Auburn observed an 18-year-old male placing cough medicine and bubble gum into his pants pocket and leaving without paying.
 
Sept. 25 That Sucks
Gas was siphoned out of nine vehicles at a used car lot on South Canyon Way in Colfax.  

Sept. 27 Car Egged
On Copperfield Circle in Granite Bay, someone threw eggs at a 2007 Mercedes, causing approximately $7,500 in damage to the paint.
