Walt Chatham, left, got a hardy handshake from Placer County Sheriff Ed Bonner before appearing before the board of supervisors Tuesday to accept a retirement commendation. Chatham, a deputy for 31 years, is the recipient of heroism medals for saving five people from a burning house in North Auburn and disarming a knife-wielding man who tried to jump from the Foresthill Bridge.

The Hon. Mark S. Curry, left, the newest judge of the Placer County Superior Court, was joined by his family and Presiding Judge Larry Gaddis at his ceremonial installation last Friday in the Historic Placer County Courthouse in Auburn. With him were his wife Tracy and children, Emily, 9, and Mason, 11. Curry, a Loomis resident and veteran Sacramento County prosecutor, was named a judge in May by Governor Schwarzenegger.
At Long Last! — No one in Auburn knows if there was ever a sidewalk in front of the Lawyers Row and Medical Museum buildings on Maple Street in Historic Old Town, but there’s one there now! City crewmen are shown installing the 90-foot stretch of sidewalk early Tuesday morning.
