Vuletich serves as California representative of the Government Finance Officials’ Association of the U.S. and Canada, the organization that selected the County of Placer for the award for the sixth consecutive year.

Scene from the past? Not quite. A group of local notables donned Old West gear and turned out on a chilly November morning to film “Her Blazing Saddle,” a spoof of the Mel Brooks classic “Blazing Saddles.” The video was in honor of Cindy Eklund’s presidency of the Auburn Chamber of Commerce and was shown at the organization’s Installation Dinner last Saturday at the Elks Lodge on Pine Street in Auburn. Perry King, a leading man in dozens of films and TV dramas during the past 30 years, was Loyce Smallwood’s guest on her KAHI “Connections” show last week. King is involved in the ownership of a 500-acre ranch between Cool and Georgetown.

Lincoln’s new City Hall and Western Placer Unified School District building, due to open Feb. 22nd, is 60,000 square feet and four stories high, according to City Manager Gerald Johnson. Like all fans of St. Nick, Karri Samson, library assistant at the Auburn Library, loves reindeer, especially the inanimate ones. She owns a collection of nearly 1,000 reindeer miniatures and hundreds of them are currently on display at the library on Nevada Street.
