The women’s jail cell is located underneath the stairs at the historic
Placer County Courthouse in Old Town Auburn. Now a museum exhibit, the
cell was once used to segregate female inmates from the male jail
population. Admission to the Placer County Courthouse Museum is free,
but donations are welcome. The museum’s gift shop, which also serves as
a visitor center, features the county’s gold display as well as books
