This seems to be a very unhappy place to work and that is certainly communicated to customers, making it a very uncomfortable experience. The owner acts as if he is doing you a favor when you dine there.
We have been made to wait for nearly an hour once to often, even with reservations, in a virtually empty restaurant. It seemed as if it were a ploy to get us to spend money in the bar. My Restaurant Observations Price Range:
Moderate ($11 - $30)
Kid Friendly:
Yes

If you want the right place to hang out with some friends, sip some wine and have the best service around, you have found your place. Josh, the bartender is happy to serve you and gets to know what you like right away. The food is always wonderful, you know you will have a good time when you walk through the door. Bootleggers is in Old Town, which would be a dining wasteland were it not for Ty Rowe and his talented band of chefs.
When guests visit from out of town, this is probably one of our first choices for fine dining (now that Madonna's is closed).
One of my faves is the "Mixed Grill" which usually features pork, beef, and fish....but varies from season to season. My daughter likes the steak options, and my wife is fond of their fettucine dishes.
Bootleggers has become an Auburn CA institution. Fortunately, they don't rest on their laurels and continue to provide innovative California and American cuisine. (Although the Club Car and other restaurants offer better entertainment options).
