PICTURE THIS – While attending the Granite Community Bank “Banking to Business Quarterly Forum” last week, I bumped into the entire Kopp clan. Shown, from left, is papa Jerry with daughter Rachel, mama Sandi, and son Aaron. They run the family business, UpTown Signs in Auburn.
There were more than 130 in attendance at the Ridge, including elected
officials from Roseville, Rocklin, Lincoln, Loomis, Colfax and Auburn.
See the story on the front page for more on the presentation. I also
spotted Auburn Police Chief Valerie Harris, Auburn City financial guru
Andy Heath, Auburn Mayor Bob Snyder, Colfax Mayor Sharon Gieras, Placer
County CEO Tom Miller, Roseville Mayor Jim Gray, Rocklin City
Councilman Peter Hill, Placer County Water Agency honcho Dave
Breninger, Placer County Superintendent of Schools Gayle
Garbolino-Mojica, Stewart Feldman, Brad Weston (of Auburn Printers),
Leslie Maita (of Maita Ford), Auburn Chamber President Steve Galyardt,
Nancey Holland and Kathleen Harris (of Harris Industrial Gasses), Ron
Lichau (of Lichau and Associates), Tony Ferrari (of Auburn Office
Products), Ken Tokutomi, Rebecca Toedter, dad and son real estate team
Gary and Kevin Capps, Tom Jones, former John T. Doolittle staffer Brian
Jensen (now with PG&E) and soon-to-be former Doolittle staffer
Gordon Hinkle, Mickey Bennett (of Mickey’s Boots and a swell musician),
Jeff Dutra, Virgil Traynor, Steve Snyder (of Gold Rush Chevrolet), Ed
and Maureen Gilligan and Nancy Nittler.
AROUND TOWN – Granite Community Bank in Downtown Auburn is planning to
add six new jobs and expand into the adjacent warehouse that once
housed stacks of tires. The expansion will be another nice addition to
the area. ... Auburn’s “Endurance Capital” moniker is getting some use
– possibly. I hear there is a new business slated to go into 175 Elm
Street (the Pistol Pete’s center), tentatively dubbed “Endurance
Capital Daily Nutrition,” that will feature protein shakes, green tea
and the like, according to Galen McCord. ... The good folks behind the
second Auburn Bluegrass Fest (to be held Oct. 6) are hard at work for
the upcoming fundraiser for the Auburn Placer Performing Arts Center.
As we get closer to the event, we’ll keep you informed. ... Ginger
Armstrong is sure proud of her strawberries, which she says are ready
for picking at the Snowy Peaks Tree and Berry Farm located at 30100
Foresthill Road in Foresthill. They are grown vertically, so there is
no bending or kneeling, stacked on something similar to a lazy susan.
They’ve also just planted 1,500 blueberry bushes, which should be ready
for harvest in 2010. For more info, give her a call at 530-367-3766.
WATERING HOLE MUSINGS – During a recent outing to the Tahoe Club
(thanks to an invite by Rudy Rivero), I spotted Ken Geil, Ellis and
Shari Smith, Bill and Nancie Radakovitz and Jim and Beckie King. It’s
ladies night on Fridays while the rest of the time the club is reserved
for the guys. I’m told the club was founded in 1909 and the building
came two years later.
WISHING WELL – KAHI radio’s Dave Rosenthal is recovering after
suffering a heart attack last Thursday. The on-air personality for
Placer County’s only radio station is expected to make a full recovery
and return to his 9-11 a.m. show sometime in the near future. We wish
you a speedy recovery, my friend. ... I’m told that Tahoe Club top guy
Dick Brooks is recovering following surgery on his foot. We wish you
well, Dick. ... Happy birthday to Gilbert Platz (July 26), Eric
Warmuth and Stewart King (July 28) and Ted Moore (Aug. 1), who also
celebrated his wedding anniversary with wife Sylvia on July 31. Also,
George Remaley (Aug. 2) is blowing out birthday candles. While I don’t
know the specific birth dates of the following members of National
Active and Retired Federal Employees Associaton Placer Chapter 1354, I
can tell you they all celebrated birthdays in July: Mervin Danielson,
Virginia Decker, Ruth Young, Lea Danielson, Thomas Cannon, Norman
Yetka, Margaret Roy, Audrey Lunde and Donald Sagar. Auburn’s Dean and
Doreen Wood are celebrating their anniversary on Aug. 2 while Victor
and Emma Bonilla and Al and Alice Berry also had anniversaries in July.
