PIC PICK – This week’s snapshot comes courtesy of Steve Gold, who took the photo of a proud Faber Eaves as he was presented with an award for being the top individual fundraiser at the Relay for Life event in Auburn on Sunday. Faber, the lucky gent married to Sharon Gannon, was the team captain for the Knights of Columbus and marks the first year the organization participated in the relay. As a group, they raised more than $7,200.
AROUND TOWN – All Placer High graduates of the 1940s are invited to
attend the 60th reunion of the class of 1947 to be held Oct. 6 at the
Carmichael Elks Lodge. Music will be provided by Buddy Harpham’s Live
Band. For reservation forms (which are due by Sept. 15), call
530-885-3538 or 530-885-9494. ... Diane Wood is hosting a “fused glass”
class on Sept. 5th, 12th, 19th and 26th at the Arts Building, 808
Lincoln Way. All classes are 6 to 9 p.m. and the total cost is $185. If

BLACK & WHITE BALL UPDATE – Rosie Mietzel is happy to report that
there will be “measured pours” on all the hard liquor bottles at the
Black & White Ball on Sept. 15, which will help cut down on
“extra-stiff” drinks. It’s part of an attempt by organizers to make
sure they don’t take the same hits they did last year when local law
enforcement officers busted more than 60 drivers for DUI – most trying
to drive home from the Auburn event. They are also seeking additional
taxis, saying there simply weren’t enough at the gates to fill demand.
Other measures they are taking include searching bulky purses and
backpacks at the entrance points and barring pre-ball partiers (ie.
tipsy folks) from entering. I have to agree with Auburn Chamber
President Steve Galyardt when he says that personal responsibility

RUMOR MILL – The new eatery rumored to be going into the building that
also houses Pistol Pete’s and Liquor Outlet is a rumor no more. On
Tuesday night, Joe Caribé was on the agenda for Auburn’s Historic
Design Review Commission seeking approval of a wall sign for his new
restaurant at 160 Harrison Avenue, dubbed Caribbean To-Go.
LOOMIS LINES – A strong tenant in the still vacant Horseshoe Bar Grill
building on Taylor and Horseshoe Bar Road would benefit the entire
community, but with an asking price of $1.35 million (according to
Coldwell Banker Commercial GR Realty) for the restaurant business, it’s
doubtful the doors will open any time soon. Of course, the restaurant
comes with a full liquor license. An interesting sidenote:
Tricommercial.com lists the restaurant at $1.195 million. ...
Preparations are underway for the 20th annual Eggplant Festival in
Loomis, the town’s biggest event. Thousands will descend on the
festival October 6th at Loomis Station Plaza (that’s the multimodal
station to the rest of us). As always, there will be lots of food,
entertainment and activities. Last year, Gerry Lyons (of News &
Views) hosted a live show from the event and cameras were everywhere.

WISHING WELL – Here’s to wishing a speedy recovery for our friend Debra
Jarvis, who is on the mend after a recent vehicle accident on Ophir
Road. Her 1979 Alpha Romeo Spider convertible isn’t doing so great
either, I’m told. She usually keeps her prized automobile in the
garage, but decided to drive it to work that day to show some of her
friends. ... Happy birthday to Ben Asgharzedeh, Jerry Kennedy (both
Aug. 25), Kathy King (Aug. 26) and Christin Zacharia (Aug. 29). Happy
anniversary to Cool’s Terry and Melanie Barton (Aug. 23), Auburn’s
