Appointments of two new members to the Placer County Planning Commission were approved this week by the board of supervisors.
New Planning Official — Laurence Farinha, left, was congratulated by Planning Director Michael Johnson after being named the District 5 member of the Placer County Planning Commission. The board of supervisors also appointed Richard Johnson to the District 3 seat on the panel.
Richard Johnson of Auburn, the retired U.S. Forest Service’s
Foresthill District ranger and a member of the county agricultural
commission, was named to the District 3 seat on a recommendation from
Supervisor Jim Holmes.
Johnson replaces Jim Forman of Auburn, who recently resigned from the
commission after more than a decade of service. He was initially
appointed by former District 3 Supervisor Harriet White and held over
by Holmes.
Laurence Farinha, a member of a well-known North Auburn farming family,
was appointed to the District 5 seat on Supervisor Bruce Kranz’s
recommendation.
Farinha succeeds Michelle Ollar-Burris, whom the supervisors removed
from the commission in mid-June after the Sacramento Bee newspaper
alleged she had been involved in illegal lot-splitting activity.
In the wake of the allegations, the supervisors retained a Chico
land-use lawyer for a minimum of $10,000 to investigate the matter. The
lawyer’s report is expected to be completed by mid-September.
In related business, the board also approved the following appointments/reappointments:
— Thomas Davenport, Richard Lercari, Len Valasek and Samuel Silvas to
the Lincoln Veterans Memorial Hall Board, with George Schwartz, Victor
Ioppolo, Bud Duncan and John McCulloch as alternates.
— Thomas Seth, Earl Chinnock, Russ Kelley, Ron Jarnagin, Robert Miller
and Geray Bressie to the Loomis Veterans Memorial Hall Board, with
Ruben Ramos and Lawrence Johnson as alternates.

Cannizzaro, Marjorie D. Jones and Vicki Haskins Campbell to the
Foresthill Veterans Memorial Hall Board, with Stephen Coffman, Ramona
Wright-Schmiedel, Travis Reed, John W. Clark and Larry Jordan as
alternates.

The supervisors also accepted the resignations of Todd Lindstrom and
the above-referenced Laurence Farinha from the North Auburn Municipal
Advisory Council.
