Depoe Bay is a wonderful cafe in downtown Auburn. Delicious, freshly brewed coffee is served along with many different specialty drinks, all of which are equally delicious. (For a special summer treat I highly recommend the Peanut Butter Mocha...for a pick-me-up in winter go with a classic latte). The service is always great. Friendly baristas know all the local customers. They always make a point of asking about my family and following up on anything we had talked of previously. The atmosphere is great...beautifully painted walls and lots of room to sit down and eat. For a little getaway from the hustle and bustle of highway 49 or the monotony of big businesses, I highly recommend paying a visit to Depoe Bay Coffee.
I am writing this on behalf of the Morning Press Crew of The Auburn Journal. Every morning the "guys" take a walk on over to say hello to Dion, and get their morning cup of Joe. The Atmosphere, Service and quality of their product is above average. The guys have the opportunity to get their coffee at any other coffee shop in Auburn, but choose not too. They will only drink the coffee from Depoe Bay.
Dion, the owner, is extremely friendly and gets to know his customers personally. It is obvious that he cares about the quality of his product, the atmosphere in his establishment, and the opinions of his customers.
Thanks to Dion and his entire staff for making our mornings the best.

Poor coffee, as in sympathy for the ruined beans, and poor coffee, as in the quality of the beverage. First, virtually every coffee is roasted the same: DARK or more accurately, BURNT. I'll give you $20 if you can taste the difference between the coffees. Even the "light" roasts are dark and oily, meaning any nuance of the potential flavor in the bean has been toasted to oblivion. Speaking of flavor- what is the first thing you might smell upon entering Depoe Bay Coffee? Sickly sweet artificial flavors that are used to mask the awful flavor of the coffee. Good coffee IMO is inherently delicious; no need to "improve" it. The first thing I notice VISUALLY is that the buckets of beans are unlidded, leading to expired freshness and stale flavors. When I once ordered espresso, I received a watery brown beverage in a paper cup. No crema, no porcelain cup, nothing but acrid, burning rubber flavors on my tongue. With espresso like that, you NEED to drown it in milk and syrup. Get coffee here because it's convenient, because you're friends with the owners, or if you like it burnt and stale.
I like Depoe Bay Coffee and the staff are nice. The coffee in my humble opinion is fantastic. The food, well... But hey they're a coffee roaster right. Keep up the good work.

Best coffee house and coffee roasters in Auburn CA, Monday, 07 May 2007
Outstanding fresh-roasted coffee and tea options make this a destination coffee house in downtown Auburn, CA. Whenever I'm on this side of town, I'm usually going to stop in for a cup of Decaf.
