PCWA sets hearing on likely water rate hikes

Directors of the Placer County Water Agency have set November 15 at 2 p.m. for a public hearing on proposed water rate and charge increases in PCWA Zone 1, which includes the Auburn area and other communities.

Mailed notification of the hearing was sent this week to all Zone 1 customers and/or property owners.

The suggested rate hikes generally are relatively small. For example, the monthly charge for treated water from a 5/8-inch meter would go from $4.72 to $5.27. The renewal/replacement charge for a 5/8-inch meter would be hiked from $12 to $12.50. Untreated water rates are also in line for upward adjustments.

In other PCWA news, Agency Finance Chief Joe Parker reported the successful sale of $33.6 million in certificates of participation, the revenue from which will be used to improve existing water systems and meet future system needs.

The COPs, which are similar to revenue bonds, will be retired over a 30-year period at interest rates ranging from 3.42 to 4.85 percent.

The agency directors’ next business meeting will be October 4, starting at 2 p.m. in the PCWA’s headquarters at 144 Ferguson Road in Auburn.
