The cloudy weather didn’t stop thousands of people from coming out to enjoy the Rocklin Chamber of Commerce’s 14th annual Hot Chili and Cool Cars. Nearly 200 classic cars and more than 20 chili cooks competed for prizes at the event in Rocklin on Saturday.
Seventeen persons cruised away with prizes for their classic cars. Richard Fripp, of Reno, NV, took home the “Best in Show” award for his
1938 Chevy pickup. Jim and Collette Stewart, of Auburn, were the
runners-up with their 1939 Mercury pickup.
Other winners included Larry Dorset of Rocklin’s 1936 Ford Sedan for
Best Paint; Steven Pope’s 1968 Chevy Camaro for Best Engine; Mack Tiner
of Loomis’ 1949 Chevy 2-door sedan for Best Interior; Peter Curd of
Roseville’s 1969 AMC AMX for Best Muscle Car; Joe Galiata of Lincoln’s
1934 Ford pickup for Best Truck; James Heinz of Rocklin’s 1930 Ford
Model A for Best Classic Car; Lane Allen of Reno’s 1929 Ford Coupe for
Best Hot Rod and Pete Ramirez of Auburn’s 1953 Ford coupe for Most
Unique.
Rocklin is home to the winners in all seven chili categories. This
year’s “Best Chili” prize went to California Transmission. Gene Layne
received a $300 cash prize. Rick Goucher of Rick’s Carpet Care was the
runner up in that category. Layne’s recipe also won the “People’s
Choice Award” – which is voted on by the event attendees. The City of
Rocklin/Station Extreme spiced things up with the “Hottest Chili”
