Tom Stefani killed by bomb blast in Afghanistan

A Mass of the Resurrection for Steven Thomas Stefani, a Placer County man who was killed by a roadside bomb blast last week while working as an agricultural advisor in war-torn Afghanistan, will be offered at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 13 in St. Teresa of Avila Church in North Auburn.

The 28-year-old Stefani, who answered to the nickname “Tom,” was the son of Barbara and Steven Stefani III.

An agriculture/animal sciences graduate of the University of Nevada, Reno, he was working for the U.S. Forest Service in Wells NV when he volunteered to go to Afghanistan for the U.S. Department of Agriculture as an advisor on farm management and production

Tom Stefani attended Placer Hills School in Meadow Vista, Weimar Hills Middle School and Maidu High School. He was an Eagle Scout and a “Diamond Star” 4-H member. He was a candidate for a master’s degree at UNR at the time of his death.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by brothers Jon and Dan as well as his girlfriend Jessica Dhaemers.
