The board of supervisors has authorized a $726,268 contract with Western Engineering Contractors, Inc. for first-phase construction of Franklin School Community Park on Laird Road in the Loomis/Granite Bay area.

Western Engineering Contractors’ bid was 26 percent lower than the county engineer’s estimate for the job, according to Albert Richie, deputy director of the Placer County Facilities Services Department.

The work will include a quarter-mile concrete trail, a baseball backstop and installation of 65,000 square feet of synthetic turf on one baseball field and one soccer field.
