A $550,000 purchase order for Valley Toxicology Service, Inc. of West Sacramento to perform forensic laboratory work for the Placer County District Attorney’s office through next September 30 has been approved by the board of supervisors.

DA spokesman Scott Owens said the work includes drug, alcohol and blood analyses needed in criminal prosecution cases. The same firm has provided such services since 2005.

In a related matter, the supervisors approved the use by the district attorney’s office of $25,524 in asset forfeiture trust funds for the purchase of body armor vests, police service weapons and other safety equipment for use by its investigators.

Owens said the money is cash seized from criminal enterprises.
