Just ate here tonight. Service was great and the waitress spoke English just fine. She was quick to our table (and it was a full house). Our food arrived quickly (about half way through my Tecate).

I had the Carne Asada Super Burrito and a side order of a cheese enchilada with green sauce. The green sauce is great as was the enchilada. The burrito was good but not the best I have ever had.

This place might be located in a strip mall but don't let that turn you away. This place is definitely worth trying out.

The food is really good, but the service is just so-so.
Our waitress could hardly speak English!

And they need to get rid of the goofy beer signage. Its starting to look like a big infomercial for Corona Beer.

Still, this is the best Mexican eatery in the foothills, despite its service and decor faux pas.

Our family eats at El Portal at least TWICE a week. The average cost of a full meal is less than $10, and there are three persons in our family. Do the math, and you'll discover that we spend $240 per month at El Portal. Its my wife's and daughter's favorite restaurant in Auburn, CA. Did I mention that my wife was born in Zacatecas, Mexico (90 miles from Guadalajara). You would have to drive 1000 miles (to my wife's hometown) in order to find better Mexican food.
