I was never much of a pie-lover until I moved to Auburn and discovered Machado Orchards. In addition to all their fresh produce, apple cider, caramel apples, etc. they have the best old-fashioned pies in town. I bake lots of cookies and cakes at home, but will never bake a pie when I can get one from Machado's that is so darn good. I always buy their pies for holidays, visitors (everyone always loves them) and anytime we feel like a good ol' American apple pie. A year or so ago I needed to pick up two pies and couldn't make it to the shop by closing time at 7 p.m. so Gary left the pies outside in a box for me and told me to slip my check under the door. Talk about service! Out of this world. Machado's is one of Auburn's true gems.
