Colfax VFW Post 2003 to host dinner

A dinner hosted by the Colfax VFW Post 2003 will be held on Saturday, Nov. 10 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Colfax Veterans Memorial Hall, 22 Sunset Circle. The dinner will include lasagna, salad, garlic bread, cookies, coffee or hot apple cider and costs $8 per person, plus an item for our troop care packages. Suggested items are beef jerky, granola bars, hard candy, gum, new socks (white or black), a music CD, a movie DVD or a small holiday ornament. Sodas, wine, beer and mixed drinks will also be available for a donation. If you can’t make it to dinner, but still want to help, monetary donations will be accepted to offset postage costs, and care package items can be dropped off at Colfax Area Chamber of Commerce, Dawn’s Hallmark in Auburn, or the Colfax Record in Colfax.

Vets Parade is Sunday in Auburn

Rain or shine, the Auburn area’s Veterans Day Parade and Commemoration will be held Sunday, Nov. 11. The parade will begin at the Auburn Chamber of Commerce building at 601 Lincoln Way at 10:45 a.m. sharp. It will proceed to the Clock Tower where, at 11 a.m., the rifle squad will present a 21-gun salute, present the colors and play “Taps.” If the weather holds, expect the Flying Doctors – led by pilots Tom Brady, Dave Morgan, Dave Albright and Tom Palmer – to fly over the Clock Tower. The parade will continue along Lincoln Way and conclude at the Veterans Memorial Hall at 100 East Street where there will be a community barbecue and tribute to the veterans. Grand marshalls, in memoriam, for the parade will be the Starkey brothers, Lawrence and Henry. Lawrence was killed in WWII while his brother was killed in Vietnam. Anyone interested in marching in the parade should contact Earl Montgomery at 530-878-8809. For those wishing to volunteer or sponsor the community barbecue or tribute, should contact Cynthia Haynes at 530-889-5133 or e-mail her at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
