Placer County Water Agency customers will be paying higher water rates, fees and charges in 2008. The increases were approved at last week’s meeting of the PCWA Board of Directors. Finance Chief Joe Parker said the rate adjustments will allow the agency to keep up with increasing costs for providing water service and rebuilding the aging water system infrastructure. Customer Services Director John Kingsbury said the rate hikes will total about $1.40 per month for a residential water customer using low amounts of water; $5.31 per month for the “average” water user; and $6.75 per month for a high water user.
Agency treated water bills include four components: the water usage
charge, the monthly service charge, the renewal/replacement charge, and
the state and federal mandated program charge. For irrigation customers using untreated canal water, the capital
facilities rate was raised by 45 cents to $6.65 a month. Summer
irrigation water users will pay 3.25 percent more for water. Persons with questions about the new fee structure should call the Customer Service Center at (530) 823-4850. In other business, the PCWA directors approved a 2008 overall budget of
$122.8 million, the largest component of which is $91.2 million for the
water system. The board members also approved environmental studies, mitigation
measures and a project to replace the Baker Siphon, an 850-foot section
of pipeline on the Boardman Canal off Placer Hills Road four miles
south of Colfax. The leaking 36-inch line will be replaced with a
42-inch line.
