Ex-deputy sheriff hit with more sex charges

Former Placer County Sheriff’s Deputy Michael Johnson’s bail has been increased to $35,000 after additional charges involving illegal relations with underage girls were filed against him.

Johnson, 26, was arrested by fellow sheriff’s officers last October on a charges involving a 16-year-old Colfax girl. More charges were added when investigators claimed he had an illicit relationship with an underage girl while working as an Auburn policeman a few years earlier.

The district attorney’s office said the latest charges include exhibiting lewd material to a minor and contacting a minor for sex. He’s also charged with illegal use of the sheriff’s computer system and furnishing alcoholic beverages to minors.

Johnson was freed on $10,000 bail after his initial arrest. The bail on the latest charges was set at $25,000 and was posted by Frank Calabretta’s Bail House. Johnson, who resigned from the sheriff’s department last month, will return to superior court in Auburn February 21.
