Thomas A. Cannon Jr. Services for Auburn resident Thomas A. Cannon Jr. will be held in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Bell Road Friday, January 25 at noon. Mr. Cannon died January 15 at age 85. Survivors are his wife Raedine and children, Lynn, Mary, Barry, Thomas and John. The Auburn Lassila Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements.
Helen Marie Griffiths A celebration of the life of Helen Marie
Griffiths, a well-known Placer County resident, will be held in her
Auburn home Saturday, January 26 from noon to 4 p.m. She died January
10 at age 85. An Auburn area resident since 1963, she was the
U.S. postmaster at DeWitt State Hospital in North Auburn until that
facility was closed in the early 1970s. She then worked at the Bowman
Post Office and later spent several years at the Newcastle Post Office. Survivors
include her husband Robert; children Bill, Kelly, Charlene and Alta; a
brother Charles Wood; 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one
great-great-grandchild. She was predeceased by a son, Robert Griffiths
Jr. Memorial contributions to the Save the Redwood League are encouraged. The address is 114 Sansome Street, San Francisco CA 94104. Debora Breiten Kriter A
celebration of the life of Placer County native Debora Breiten Kriter
will be held Friday, January 25 at 2 p.m. in the Newcastle Portuguese
Hall following a private interment service in the Newcastle District
Cemetery. Mrs. Kriter, who was born March 21, 1967 in Roseville,
died unexpectedly January 8 in Pearland TX, her place of residence in
recent years. She was reared in Loomis, graduated from Del Oro
High School and earned a degree at Cal Poly University in San Luis
Obispo. She helped the Lincoln Training Center establish a program in
Roseville for employing developmentally disabled adults. She later
worked for non-profit organizations in Massachusetts and Texas. Survivors
are her husband David Kriter; daughters Tiffany and Julie Kriter; her
parents E.J. and Dorothy Breiten; and a brother, Robert Breiten.
Memorial donations to the American Cancer Society are suggested. Edith Snow Edith Snow, a well-known Auburn area resident and widely respected poet, died January 12 at age 98. A
native of Indiana, she was an Auburn area resident since childhood. Her
father, Harry Holsclaw, was a fruit rancher who later established
Holsclaw’s Feed and Fuel in central Auburn.
She graduated from Placer High School and attended Sacramento City College before earning a psychology degree at UC Berkeley. She
was in her early 60s when she enrolled in a creative writing class at
Sierra College where her teacher, Bill Hotchkiss, encouraged her talent
for poetry. Her first volume of poems “Winter Tree” was published in
1968. She went on to publish six more poetry books. She is
survived by her children, Monica Roberts, Julia Hanley, Jerry Snow and
Sami Snow; brothers Everett and Fritz Holsclaw; four grandchildren and
five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by Neal Snow, her husband
of 59 years. In accordance with her wishes, no services were held.
Lucille Patricia Johannes In accordance with her wishes, no
formal services were held for Lucille Patricia Johannes of Auburn, who
died January 10 at age 82. A native of Idaho, she and her husband
Walter, who survives her, resided in Nebraska, rural Roseville and Rio
Linda before settling in Auburn’s Woodside Village. In addition
to her husband, she is survived by children, Glen Johannes, Dennis
Johannes and Doris Feenstra; seven grandchildren and four

) Allalee Sands Kennon Allalee Belle Sands Kennon, affectionately known as “Lolly,” died Wednesday, January 16, 2008 in High Point, North Carolina with her loving daughter, Diane, at her side. Lolly was born January 24, 1928 in Hilt, Siskiyou County, CA, to Hazel and Jesse J. Sands. She grew up in Auburn, married the late Col. John C. “Jack” Kennon, U.S.A.F., and lived both here and abroad as a military wife and mother. After retirement they returned to the Auburn area to be near family and the mountains they so loved. Lolly leaves behind a daughter, Diane (Ed) Piacentino of High Point, NC; a son, Jay (Ruth) Kennon of Puyallup, WA; a daughter, Susan (Bob) Russell of Vero Beach, FL; her brother, Harry Sands of Auburn; 6 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives, all deeply loved. Lolly was a warm and kind lady with a lively sense of humor. She will be missed. The family will lay her to rest at a later date in the Old Auburn District Cemetery among family and friends who have gone before her.
